Christ Community Church is seeking a full-time Pastor of Adult Community and Discipleship. This man will oversee the adult community-building and discipleship ministries of the church, and assist with other pastoral duties (preaching, weddings, funerals, etc.) as needed. The role includes:
- Shepherding and developing community groups: We currently have about 20 community groups, but our church is growing and has a consistent need for new ones. This pastor will work with the elders to shepherd the group leaders we currently have and develop a system for training and launching new groups as needed.
- Planning and teaching adult discipleship courses: Adult discipleship courses include Sunday morning classes for adults and any other one-off or regular courses aimed at growing spiritual maturity. This pastor will plan the schedule of adult discipleship courses and personally teach or co-teach courses.
- Helping people move from visitor to engaged member: This pastor will lead our church’s Hospitality ministry at a high level and will oversee the process of helping visitors make CCC their church home: meeting new people, finding ways for them to connect and grow, and helping members have community, growth, and service opportunities.
- Assisting with pastoral responsibilities: As gifting, need, and opportunity dictates, this pastor will help with pastoral responsibilities, including but not limited to helping lead Sunday morning spoken liturgy, preaching, pastoral care, weddings, and funerals.
- Events that foster community and discipleship: This pastor will plan and oversee events that foster community and discipleship: they might be social events, teaching events / mini-conferences, or anything else that might further these ministries of the church.
- Pastoral resources: This pastor will find or develop resources that help people live faithful Christian lives in the world. This might include sermon discussion questions for community groups, studies for church seasons like Advent and Lent, or helping congregants find articles, studies, etc. related to specific topics or questions.
Personal Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications are:
- Meets the biblical qualifications for an elder.
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in vocational ministry. A seminary degree is strongly preferred, but the candidate may be in process of completing a seminary degree.
- Although we are a nondenominational church, our polity and theology are closely aligned with the Presbyterian Church in America.
- We adhere to the Westminster Confession of Faith and are Reformed, paedobaptist, and complementarian. You must be as well.
- The leadership capacity to grow a ministry, including recruiting and training leaders.
- The demonstrated ability to lead teams to set goals and reach desired ministry outcomes.
- The capacity to try, fail, learn, and keep going.
- Discipline and humility.
- A desire to work toward greater diversity in the church.
- A team player.
- We have about 15 people on our staff who love each other and work together to accomplish our mission.
- We are looking for someone who can add their talents and Christ-like character to an already great team and culture.
- We are looking for someone who works well with others, is a hard worker, and when necessary, is willing to take on tasks outside their job description.
