Our church is seeking an Assistant Minister to provide leadership and support to families and to our community by creating, planning, and implementing a variety of initiatives that will enrich and deepen our faith.  Understanding New England’s culture, fluency with popular and current modes of communication (including Social Media), and a vibrant faith will be key as we hope to find ways to reach out to younger congregants and families in our area.

First Baptist Church, New London, NH is located in the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Upper Valley region of New Hampshire.  New London is a classic New England village with colonial architecture and a historic college campus located right next door to the church.  The mountains, lakes, ponds, trail systems, summer concerts, local theater, farmers markets and so much more in this area are enjoyed by all.  It is also important to know that our church is part of a mission field in one of the least churched states in the United States with only 33% of people claiming to have any religion at all and even fewer who identify as believers in Christ.  We’re looking forward to welcoming an Assistant Minister who will work with us to help change those numbers!

Applicants should be a committed follower of Jesus Christ.  They should have a four-year undergraduate degree plus a Masters of Christian Ministry or equivalent theological degree.  Previous experience in ministry is preferred, but not required.   We are excited to see how God will use our new Assistant Minister’s gifts and experience in our church and in our community.

FUNCTION:

  1. To provide ministerial leadership and support to families by creating, planning, and implementing a variety of initiatives that enrich their lives and faith.
  2. Provide ministerial leadership and support for our church’s community outreach ministry.

SUPERVISION: Senior Pastor

QUALIFICATIONS: A committed follower of Jesus Christ.   A four-year undergraduate degree plus a Masters of Christian Ministry (or similar theological degree).  Previous experience in ministry preferred, but not required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor and the Music Director to integrate programs for families within the mission of the church.
  2. Provide leadership for family ministry experiences such as learning opportunities, fellowships, outings, ministry projects, etc.
  3. Help shape a missional culture that will equip and inspire our church to share the love of Christ within our community.
  4. Work cooperatively with staff and volunteers in planning and implementing outreach to our community.
  5. Organize and promote the congregation’s local and regional missions efforts.
  6. Stay up to date with current ministry expertise, movements, and trends in order to more effectively fulfill the ministry.
  7. Attend weekly staff meetings and other leadership meetings as they arise.
  8. Attend monthly Missions and Outreach planning meetings, Christian Education planning meetings, and other board and committee meetings as requested.
  9. Plan, organize, and participate in the annual Christmas Eve Living Creche and Candle Lighting ceremonies.
  10. Be involved in strategic leadership and in the development of the church’s annual plan for ministry.
  11. Assist the Senior Pastor as needed in planning and leading worship services, including occasional assigned preaching responsibilities.
  12. Submit an annual report at the end of each year.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Normal church environment and wider community settings.

REQUISITE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Position requires infrequent physical demands.  Position requires computer literacy, good public speaking abilities, a willingness to travel, and a commitment to lifelong learning.  The following skills are essential to the expected duties in this position: teamwork, strong leadership, excellent interpersonal relations, a high level of proficiency with social media and technology, planning, organization, goal setting, time management, problem solving, demonstrable written and oral communication.
