The Director or Assistant Pastor for Student and Family Ministry is called by the session to lead the students and families of Covenant into greater love for Christ, His Church, and our community. Particular attention will be given to the following:

  • Giving focus and support to the staff and volunteers of the student and family ministries (children’s, youth, and college ministries).
  • Compiling a list to promote, and to attend the extra-curricular activities of students and families.
  • Scheduling regular meetings with students in small groups and 1-on-1 settings outside of official gatherings.
  • Meeting with students and families on special occasions, including hospital visitations, baptismal preparations, counseling, and providing them with Gospel resources to answer their needs.
  • Connecting with students and their families around shared interests.
  • Assisting the senior pastor and the session in corporate worship, leading the weekly large group youth gatherings, and helping families integrate into Covenant.
  • Considering, planning, and leading means of reaching the growing population of new students and families in the Wren, Easley, and Powdersville community.
  • Forecasting the growth of certain ministries and recruiting volunteers and staff accordingly.
  • Developing his own knowledge and skills by reading, attending conferences, furthering education, and networking so as to be able to address the issues of the next generation.

Personal Pre-Requisites:

Humility: Characterized as one who listens carefully and desires to learn the art and craft of relational pastoral ministry.

Theology: Received training in Reformed Theology from a reputable seminary and intends to be ordained (or is already ordained) in the PCA.

Calling: Committed to understanding our students and families and encouraging them in their callings.

Hospitality: Desires to be known by our people and to know them in their daily lives.

Stability: Able to commit to at least 3 years.

Professional Pre-Requisites:

Experience: Some experience in working with students (camp, internship, campus ministry, etc).

Communication: Ability to communicate clearly in words, in writing, and in technology.

Leadership: Confidence in leading ministry teams and groups of students.

Planning: Foresight to plan ahead and recruit volunteers to assist in ministries.
