Setting
WBC is a multigenerational and multicultural congregation who exists to love God and love people. Together, we teach, preach, and study the Word of God. We pray, worship, and fellowship to develop closer relationships with God and each other. We live and participate with community endeavoring to model Christian love in word and deed. We seek to emulate Christ’s love, forgiveness, kindness, mercy, and grace in all our relationships, because we’ve received these gifts in such tremendous measure from Him personally.

Our ministry team currently includes the following:

  • Five (5) full-time positions – Senior Pastor, Youth Pastor who is transitioning to Church
    Family Life Director, Children’s Ministry Director, Administrative Assistant, and Building
    Superintendent.
  • Three (3) part-time positions – Pastor to Seniors, Graphic Design/Media Coordinator,
    and Sound Technician.
  • Two (2) worship teams (volunteer) – WBC is currently recruiting a full-time Associate/Next Generation Pastor who compliments the current ministry team. While developing the areas of focus outlined below, he/she will work in concert with the Ministry Team holding true to WBC’s mission and vision.
  • This position requires full time work; however, we are open to alternate working arrangements.
  • Our vision, with God’s blessing, may eventually involve the following:
    • Transitioning from combined Associate/Next Generation Pastor into two separate
      positions – Associate Pastor and a Youth Pastor.
    • Possibly developing part-time roles including Worship, Human Resources, as well as
      programs and fresh expressions of ministry (Daycare, Pre-school, Coffee Shop, etc.).
      Purpose.
  • The Associate/Next Generation Pastor is gifted and called by God to church ministry and is passionate about evangelism, outreach, and missions from both a personal and a ministry-level perspective.
  • The Next Gen Pastor supports, works in harmony, and consults with the Senior Pastor to align key leadership teams with our Mission and to cast the overall vision for church growth and ministry.
  • He/she provides spiritual, pastoral, and administrative leadership with a specific focus on youth and young adults while working closely with and communicating clearly with paid and volunteer staff.

Reporting/Working Relationships

The Associate/Next Generation Pastor is accountable to the Senior Pastor. He/she also
performs the following:

  • Works seamlessly with and is a member of the ministry team and actively participates in
    weekly Team meetings.
  • Participates in Deacon’s meetings, when required.
  • Other committees, as required.

Roles / Responsibilities
The Associate Pastor has two principle areas of focus:

Focus Area A:

  • Preaches and teaches on Sunday mornings on a scheduled basis and additionally, as
    requested by the senior pastor.
  • Organizes mid-week worship and fellowship, currently known as ALIVE.
    • This is a less formal, contemporary gathering that has involved praise and worship, testimony, and teaching.
    • It provides an alternate service for those who cannot attend on Sundays for various reasons and for anyone who desires to participate.
  • Becomes intentionally familiar with the congregation and the community-at-large,
    building relationships through caring bonds including, but not limited to visitation and
    attending events.
  • Assists with and participates in WBC events and ministries in consultation with the
    Senior Pastor and Ministry Team.
  • As needed, provides confidential pastoral counselling (emergencies and other short-term situations) to the church family in consultation with the Senior Pastor and Ministry Team.
  • Is passionate about learning and exploring new ideas, ways and venues for outreach,
    ministry and teaching, focusing on innovation and creativity in all aspects of ministry.

Focus Area B:

  • Develops relationships that foster teaching and discipling teens to come to a saving
    faith in Jesus Christ and deepen their walk with the Lord.
  • Builds and trains volunteer teams.
  • Equips parents with the knowledge and skills to disciple their teens.
  • Equips youth and young adults to grow in wisdom and spiritual discipline.
  • Connects with post-secondary institutions to ensure students are linked with faith-based inter-varsity fellowships.
  • Creates opportunities to maintain home church contacts. (e.g., mid-term/mid-year calls, care packages, cards, visits, calendar of opportunities at home when here on breaks, etc.)
  • Creates opportunities for meaningful connections and relationships with post-secondary and working young adults who are between the traditional “youth” and “adult” phases of life and ministry.

Qualifications

  • Accredited by, or willingness to enter the process to be accredited by, the Canadian
    Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC) Board of Ministerial Standards and Education.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Effective administrative and organizational skills.

Remuneration/Benefits
This position requires full time work; however, we are open to alternate working arrangements.
Salary, housing allowance, and benefits are commensurate with education and experience. A six-month probationary period will apply and includes frequent (or at least monthly) feedback from the Senior Pastor. On a forward basis, annual performance reviews will be carried out by the Senior Pastor.
