Children’s Coordinator

The Children’s Director at Byfield Parish Church will work with current volunteers, the Christian Education Director, and the Senior Pastor to continue the development of a vibrant ministry to children from birth through 5th grade. The Children’s Coordinator reports to the Elders of Byfield Parish and the Christian Education Director. This job includes responsibility for Sunday School, Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, existing outreach efforts and the development of new outreach efforts. 

  1. General
    1. Reporting
      1. Provide the Director of Christian Education with periodic work progress reports. 
      2. Attend staff meetings. 
      3. Participate in the life of the church. 
    2. Budget and Inventory
      1. Keep inventory of education supplies and order the same when necessary. 
      2. Adhere to limits on budgeted items and keep Christian Ed. informed of potential overruns or major unforeseen expenses. 
    3. Security
      1. Maintain safe sanctuary policy guidelines.
      2. Ensure CORI checks of volunteers are up to date.
    4. Communication
      1. Send weekly communication in church email to encourage families with children. 
      2. Maintain all CE opportunities on the church calendar. 
      3. Promote CE events and programs through the bulletin and announcements. 
  2. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
    1. Work with Christian Education Director to set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to disciple every child; review them on a regular basis. 
    2. Sunday Worship
      1. Sunday School- Organize the Sunday School hour by providing ongoing support to volunteers, recruiting volunteers, and teaching classes as necessary. 
      2. Lead and recruit volunteers a weekly “Kid’s Church” program from September through June with a focus on spiritual development for children in K-4th grade. 
      3. Oversee a check-in program for children’s ministry. 
    3. Vacation Bible School
      1. Participate in a yearly week long vacation Bible school (VBS). 
      2. Assist in recruiting and training volunteers as instructed by the CE Director. 
    4. Leadership Development  
      1. Learn to recruit and train new volunteers to build a leadership team that reflects the community served by BPC.  
      2. Assist in training volunteers to work effectively in teams.  
    5. Increase awareness 
      1. Promote children’s programming in the community, through social media, and other available means. 
      2. Ensure children’s programming has clear and simple steps to get involved for those who are inexperienced in church environments.
  3. Requirements for all areas of service. 
    1. Affirm the Byfield Parish Church Statement of Faith. 
    2. Maintain safe sanctuary policy guidelines, as noted in the Employee Handbook.
    3. Submit a biweekly time sheet and weekly progress reports.
    4. Lifestyle must be consistent with the Byfield Parish Church’s by-laws. 
    5. Pass CORI check. 
    6. Adhere to all BPC policies and procedures as noted in the Employee Handbook. 
    7. Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.  
    8. Maintain accurate information on children and leaders in ACS database.
    9. Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in children’s ministry.  
    10. Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with your gifts, abilities, experience and area needs. 
  4. Hours
    1. Weekly hours should be reported biweekly to the Christian Education Director and the Treasurer. 
    2. Must be flexible with work hours to work around meetings, functions, and worship service, and early hours. 
    3. Get Christian Education Director approval a minimum of 2 weeks prior to  planned absences.
    4. Report hours expected to work to Senior Pastor and report any changes prior to the week. 
      1. Includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.  
      2. Includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships. 
  5. Spiritual
    1.  Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word. 
    2.  Seek and maintain relationships, in the context of active participation in the spiritual life of the Byfield Parish Church. 
    3.  Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development. 
  6. Compensation
    1. The position is 5 hours weekly. 
    2. Hourly compensation of $17 hourly.
