Middle Street Baptist Church

At Middle Street Baptist church, our goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive community that strives to know Christ and make him known by serving our Savior and our city.

As Communications Manager, you’ll be a ministry partner of our church and produce and distribute print and digital media to support the church’s mission.  You’ll use technology and creativity to better communicate in ways that encourage people—both within and outside our church—to find and follow Jesus.

Part time/mostly remote position. 15 hours/week; approximately 5 hours/week in office required

Responsibilities

Communications (we expect these responsibilities to take about 75% of your time)

  • Website maintenance using Squarespace, including posting sermons (weekly) and updating calendar.
  • Oversee the design, production, and distribution of our monthly digital newsletter using Mailchimp. This includes soliciting member submissions, writing some articles yourself, and editing and designing the newsletter to be engaging to readers.
  • Manage social media by posting content and event announcements on Facebook and Instagram and monitoring activity and comments.
  • Design Sunday worship slides and coordinate any prerecorded videos using Proclaim, our worship presentation software.
  • Format and produce weekly worship bulletin and event flyers and brochures.
  • Coordinate and contribute to weekly email updates using Constant Contact and MailChimp.
  • Compile and distribute Annual Report.

Administrative Assistance (we expect these responsibilities to take about 25% of your time)

  • Perform general office administrative tasks, like answering occasional phone calls and emails (this can be done remotely), managing office supplies and equipment, keeping up-to-date member records, and serving as a first point-of-contact for the church.
  • Coordinate 3rd party building use requests, associated waivers; coordinate administrative details and communications for special events including funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.
  • Use Quickbooks to perform basic financial tasks related to accounts receivable (process and report church income) and accounts payable (process and report church expenses).

Qualifications

  • You see this role as part of your ministry as you serve the kingdom of God.
  • You keep in strictest confidence all sensitive information.
  • You are eager to learn and introduce new ideas to help us communicate better with our church family.
  • You’ll enjoy getting to know church members.
  • You have advanced knowledge of MS Word formatting principles.
  • You have experience writing, editing, designing and meeting deadlines and can share samples of your digital or print work along with your application.
  • You have used or are eager to learn the following software or its equivalents. We currently use:
    • OBS (video mixing and live streaming).
    • Proclaim (worship presentation software).
    • Audacity (audio editing).
    • Handbrake (video conversion).
    • Note: we allow and encourage on-the-job learning. If you need to learn some of these software programs, we will provide time for you to learn them while at work.  If you are familiar with other software or solutions, we are open to those as well.
  • You have used or are eager to learn creative software like Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalents.

Compensation

$25/hour + 2 weeks paid vacation

About us

We are a small, historic church located in Portsmouth, NH which exists to know Christ and make him known by serving our Savior and our city. We are stylistically flexible and diverse, seeking to speak the cultural language of Portsmouth and those whom the Lord has brought to us.

We want to hear from you!

We know job postings – and applying – can be intimidating and that confidence gaps can get in the way of meeting terrific people who will do great. We’re not expecting to hire someone who is 100% qualified.

How To Apply

If you think we’re a good fit for each other and the job sounds exciting, please submit your cover letter, resume, and any work samples (graphic design, print layout, newsletters, mailings, social media posts, event ads, etc.) to [email protected].

As an alternative to previous work samples, you may submit a re-design of our worship bulletin or select pages of our annual report.  You’ll find those files at https://www.middle.st/communications-manager.
