Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry

Church in the Cove is looking for a Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries to lead our efforts to minister to children and adolescents in our church and the broader community. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching and/or ministering to children, youth, and families, as well as significant experience managing volunteers. This role requires a person who loves children and adolescents and relates well with people of different ages and backgrounds. The Director will work under the direct supervision of the Pastor.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee programming for youth and children (from infancy through twelfth grade), including Christian Education hour, Sunday School, and Children’s lesson.

• In consultation with the Pastor and the Christian Education committee:

o Develop a plan for the children’s and youth ministries, aligning the goals and strategy with the church’s overall vision for Christian Education o Select curriculum for youth and children, coordinating educational goals between age groups.

• Recruit, train, equip and supervise volunteers. Make volunteering as easy as possible so volunteers are empowered to fully use their gifts to minister to our youth and children.

• Teach a Sunday school class to children or youth and collaborate with the Pastor to teach a periodic confirmation class.

• Prepare, or organize volunteers for, a short weekly Children’s lesson during the church service.

• Prepare young children, and facilitate middle and high school aged youth, to join the congregation so they can understand and participate in worship, fellowship, and service.

• Plan and oversee special events related to children and families, for example: Vacation Bible School, Summer community nights, seasonal special events, retreats, mission trips, etc.

• Create, document, and implement procedures and protocols to establish and maintain a safe environment for all children and youth within the nursery, Sunday School, and other programming.

• Collaborate as possible with other churches for youth events.

• Periodically review programming with the Pastor and CE committee.

• In consultation with senior church leadership, develop an annual budget for the children’s and youth ministries, operate within the constraints of that budget, and prepare an annual written report reflecting the children’s and youth ministry operations from the previous year.

• Other projects as assigned by the Pastor.

Requirements:

• Exemplary Christian character, love of children and youth, and a desire to grow in ministry experience.

• Commitment to the mission of the church

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education, Christian ministry, or a related discipline).

• Some undergraduate or graduate work in youth ministry, Biblical studies, or theology preferred.

• Experience with classroom management and history of intentional relationship building.

• Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information:

• 15-20 hours per week @ $20-$25 per hour
