Director of Children’s Ministry
Church in the Cove is looking for a Director of Children’s Ministry to lead our efforts to minister to children in our church and in the broader community. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching and/or ministering to children, as well as experience managing volunteers. This role requires a person who loves children and relates well with adult volunteers of all ages, parents, and people of different backgrounds. The Director will work under the direct supervision of the Pastor and in collaboration with the Director of Youth Ministry.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee programming for children from infancy through fourth grade, including nursery for infants through preschool and Sunday School for kindergarten through 4th grade.
• In consultation with the Pastor and the Christian Education committee, and in collaboration with the Director of Youth Ministry:
o Select Sunday School curriculum for pre-school through fourth grade o Align the goals and strategy for the Children’s Ministry with the church’s overall vision for Christian Education
● Recruit, vet, train, and supervise children’s ministry volunteers and/or hired workers to teach or assist in both the nursery and Sunday School class. Develop a clear and well communicated schedule of volunteers and make volunteering as easy as possible so volunteers are empowered to fully use their gifts to minister to our children.
• Regularly teach Sunday School for children in Kindergarten through fourth grade.
• Create, document, and implement procedures and protocols to establish and maintain a safe environment for all children within the nursery and Sunday School class.
• In consultation with senior church leadership, develop an annual budget for the children’s ministry, operate within the constraints of that budget, and prepare an annual written report reflecting the children’s ministry operations from the previous year.
• Other projects as assigned by the Pastor.
Requirements:
• Exemplary Christian character, love of children, and a desire to grow in ministry experience.
• Commitment to the mission of the church.
• A desire to teach children and adolescents the Biblical story and to mentor them in knowing and showing God’s love.
• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education, Christian ministry, or a related discipline).
• Some undergraduate or graduate work in youth ministry, Biblical studies, or theology preferred.
• Experience with classroom management
• Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Information:
• 10 hours per week, $20-$25 per hour
