Job Title: Executive Pastor/Director (Executive Director until Licensed)
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Purpose:
The Church Next Door (TCND) is a dynamic non-denominational church in the greater Columbus area that is seeking a highly motivated, passionate, creative, and experienced leader who can advance the mission and operations of the Church. The Executive Pastor serves in leadership over the business functions of TCND and succeeds by applying sound Biblical principles in the development and execution of strategies to improve the health and function of the Church. This position is responsible to lead the business, finance, facility, and human resources, while engaging closely with staff, volunteers, and partners to leverage ministry effectiveness.
As a church that places high value on Biblical humility, submission, and shared leadership – this role participates on the Executive Leadership Team alongside the Senior Pastor. While owning their areas of oversight, the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor will partner in executive decisions, directions and oversight of all staff, ministries, and function of the Church.
Essential Functions:
Finances
- Initiate annual budget preparation and help problem solve budget issues with department heads and TCND Board
- Oversee and direct TCND accounting practices
- Oversee staff expenditure procedures
- Supply quarterly budget/actual reports to individual department heads
- Ensure donations/collections procedures are clear and secure
- Ensure banking operations are managed properly
- Provide final authority in any day-to-day purchases, investment and financial decisions
- Develop and maintain relationships that enhance the implementation of the overall financial plan (Eg. TCND Board)
- Oversight of risk management
Facilities
- Oversee and manage all employees, contractors, and workers related to the upkeep of facilities (Maintenance, grounds, janitorial, admin, etc.). This includes, but is not limited to:
- Ensure all church property is in good condition
- Prioritize necessary repairs to be done in the most economical manner and within the limitations of the Church budget
- Anticipate extraordinary maintenance required and make recommendations for budget considerations, action to be taken
- Oversee the Church master schedule for groups, organizations, and classes to make most effective use of TCND space
- Oversee the management of church calendar (Planning Center)
- Manage contracts and guidelines for the use of church property and oversee the adherence to these guidelines
- Ensure an accurate inventory of all equipment (furniture, office equipment, fixtures, etc.)
- Keep abreast of all laws and regulations affecting church property
- Oversee security of the grounds and maintain security and safety plan
- See that all keys are kept secure and implementation of key checkout system
Human Resources
- Act as liaison with pastoral staff, Senior Pastor, and leadership team on HR needs
- Manage the hiring, training and evaluation process for administrative staff with Leadership Team and Senior Pastor
- Maintain/develop job descriptions and personnel files for all staff members
- Review and evaluate total competitive benefits for TCND
- Ensures regular staff performance reviews are completed in a timely manner and oversees development planning for all staff
- In partnership with Senior Pastor, facilitate annual performance reviews process for all Staff and make recommendations for salary increases
- Develop and maintain expert volunteer relationships that enhances the implementation of the overall human resources plan
Staff Team Leadership & Communication
- Lead strategic planning goal sessions or staff planning retreat days
- Quarterly check -up on progress with measurable staff team goals
- The Executive Pastor will co-lead and participate in key activities and regular meetings:
- Weekly Staff Meetings: Co-Lead with Senior Pastor
- Pastoral Team Meetings: Co-Lead with Senior Pastor
- Weekly Leadership Meetings
Pastoral Shepherding
- Support the Senior Pastor in teaching as well as the development and direction of sermon series and spiritual growth of the congregation
- Meet with members of the congregation and community for pastoral care & direction
- Commitment to prayer and intercession
- Offering pastoral input and discernment to spiritual matters, directions, and conversations of the Church
- Responding to family and community tragedies with care and comfort
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A mature, strong, and growing relationship with Jesus, heart for the local Church, and a passion to see individuals and families in the community to be transformed by the Gospel.
- Active participant in weekly/weekend worship and other Church activities
- A willingness & desire to innovate, think differently, and encourage a team to pursue and launch ministry efforts that reach the present changing culture.
- A in Ministry, Theology, Biblical Studies, Business Management, Finance, HR, etc. — Preferred but not required
- Minimum of 10 years working experience in ministry context with experience in Church finances, HR, and ministry management
- Experience preaching and/or teaching within the Church is preferred but not required
- Self-starter and able to gather, multiply and lead teams
- Proficient in HR policies and procedures
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
