The Facilities and Grounds Caretaker reports to and works with the Director of Operations and Deacon of Facilities. This individual performs general maintenance and building repairs including, but not limited to, carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, handyman services, landscaping, and seasonal maintenance (leaf and snow removal).

Essential Functions

  • Performs general inspections of the facilities and grounds (interior and exterior) bringing to attention any necessary maintenance or repair to the Director of Operations.
  • Performs all weekly checklist maintenance.
  • Walks the grounds weekly to address parking lot concerns, landscaping, and debris or trash on the property.
  • Completes event setups per setup request forms and assists with large event setups and break downs, returning furniture and furnishings to original position following events.
  • May perform errands, including the purchase of materials, as instructed by the Deacon of Facilities or Director of Operations.
  • Provides support to the Deacon of Facilities and/or Director of Operations in coordinating access and workflow for various vendors.
  • Monitors safety conditions of campus.
  • Organizes all closet and storage spaces for efficiency.
  • Dismantles and installs furniture; hangs pictures and shelving as needed.
  • Coordinates and assists with office and room moves.
  • Works outside of assigned work hours when needed (seasonal).
  • Promptly responds to facility related emergencies and takes necessary measures to ensure continuation of campus program functions under the direction of the Deacon of Facilities and/or the Director of Operations.
  • Contributes positively to employee morale; maintains a positive, pleasant demeanor to all constituencies.
  • Interacts with staff, congregation, and visitors in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to work as part of a team by being service-oriented, flexible, and reliable when helping co-workers accomplish their jobs/tasks at hand.
  • Works independently without direct supervision.


  • One to three years’ experience in facility and grounds maintenance.
  • Must possess a current driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or a general education degree (GED), preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as OSHA safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work on a ladder up to 20 feet, work on roof and other high areas.
  • Works in varied outside weather conditions daily.
  • Ability to work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
  • Regularly exposed to mechanical and electrical components, fumes, or airborne particles.
  • Perform duties that require standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, pulling, pushing.

Pay and Benefits

  • Part-Time Position – 16 hours per week.
  • Room and Board in Parsonage Ministry House.
  • While work hours will be set, there will be flexibility as to how those hours will be accrued (i.e. office hours, worship rehearsal, etc.).
