Role Snapshot:

The Interim Director of Worship supports the mission of City on a Hill Church by leading the congregation and volunteer teams in gathered worship through song and liturgy.

Church Snapshot:

The mission of City on a Hill Church Somerville is to help religious and irreligious people to become gospel people. Our core values are sound doctrine, gospel culture, and multi-ethnicity. The ideal candidate would be able to promote this mission and these values through song and liturgy selection and execution. City on a Hill Church Somerville is a part of a family of four independent “City on a Hill Churches.” This position allows the opportunity to work alongside our worship leaders at the other congregations.

Neighborhood Snapshot:

Somerville is a dense city that shares a border with Cambridge and Boston. Somerville is a very well educated and diverse community with its close proximity to the universities and career opportunities.

Responsibilities (7-10 hrs/wk):

• Lead weekly worship gatherings (Sundays @ 9:30AM, band usually arrives at 8AM).
• Lead weekly rehearsals (Thursdays @ 7PM).
• Work with pastors to choose weekly songs – all in harmony with sermon text and gospel-shaped arc of the order of service.
• Create and maintain schedule of musicians.
• Develop and provide necessary arrangements and chord sheets for band members.
• Audition and coach worship band applicants.
• Work with sound leader to ensure proper equipment and execution.
• Work with visual leader to ensure proper equipment and execution.
• Regularly meet with lead pastor for coaching and supervision.

Qualifications

• Must have an upright character and thriving relationship with Jesus.
• Must be able to sing lead and harmony parts with a strong preference toward singing while playing guitar or keys.
• Must be able to make musical arrangements and lead a band through rehearsal with a vision for what the songs should sound like.

Compensation

• $300 per week
