The Big Picture

St. Matthew Church of Lynnville (stmatthewlynnville.com) is seeking a full-time or possibly bi-vocational/part time pastor to preach the Word of God and equip the saints.

The Church

We see ourselves

1. As a church:

  • With consistent attendance and above average participation in all church activities.
  • With willingness to support the community and its missions as it is now and as it may grow.
  • Wanting to continually try to provide more activities and meaningful events for our youth and young adults.

2. As a church with problematic issues:

  • The need to keep our congregation of all ages aware of their need to have a dedicated relationship with God.
  • The need to invite our youth to a serious relationship with God.
  • The need to involve the youth of our church in fun and meaningful activities.
  • The need to help the needy in our community.
  • The need to be an active part of the greater community.

3. As a church that considers the following events of our history as important:

  • Changing from United Church of Christ denomination to non-denominational status in 2006.
  • Building an addition to the church providing classrooms, a new kitchen and spacious dining/play area in 2012, which is fully paid for.
  • Opening the Bright Beginnings Daycare/Preschool in 2018, which provides care for children in the vicinity as their families need us and provides limited employment to the community.

  • Being recognized for providing outstanding daycare and preschool for a great number of children.

The Candidate

  1. Duties

It shall be the duty of the Pastor to set a good example to the congregation and to conduct all services on Sundays, holidays, and such other days as the congregation may desire, to direct the work of religious education, administer the Holy Sacraments, visit the sick, comfort the distressed, and to perform all such duties as belong to the Pastor’s office as set forth by the Council. The Pastor shall keep a record of all services performed and make a quarterly report to the Council. A formal record is to be continued which documents the addition of new members, all baptisms, baby dedications, confirmations, marriages, and deaths within the Church. In addition, the Pastor shall present a year-end report which is included in our church’s official Annual Report.

  1. Rights

The Pastor is an ex-officio member of all organizations within the Church. As long as the Pastor is serving, no other minister shall perform any religious ceremony in the Church without the Pastor’s consent. To invite a speaker, either during a temporary absence of the Pastor or for special occasions, the consent of both the Pastor and the church Council is necessary. The Pastor’s salary shall be paid promptly in time increments as agreed upon with the church Council.

  1. Role

The Pastor is expected to keep us aware of our call as Christians, to encourage us as we strive to accomplish Christ’s mission at all times, to pray with us, to provide support and reassurance, to make suggestions and constructive criticism as is needed, and to faithfully maintain our history records.

  1. Sermons

Our congregation appreciates heartfelt, earnest biblically-based sermons that use appropriate examples, with a touch of humor regularly. We want to hear a message that leaves us thinking about how we need to change our lives to be pleasing to God, yet not feeling totally depressed, but hopeful for God’s guidance and love. We want down-to-earth, real sermon topics that are not avoiding sin and its consequences.

The Compensation

$41,500 total package plus 5 bedroom parsonage (some areas may be negotiable based on Council’s decisions). We would like for the person reading this profile to know that not only do we provide for you financially, we believe you will find yourself and your family being very loved and accepted. Our congregation practices faithful attendance and participation in services and activities. We have been cooperative with our previous pastors’ efforts of leadership and have cared for them, their spouses and children as individuals and as loved members of our church family.
