Solo pastor needed to shepherd and grow a long established, community church in a small city neigborhood. The church currently serves the community by offering a weekly food pantry and hosting twice a week soup kitchen meals.

Description:  The Pastor sets an example and equips individuals for ministry by diligently studying and preaching the Word of God, fervently praying for those entrusted to his care, and living a godly lifestyle.

Working relationships/accountability:  The Pastor is accountable to the Church Council and is subject to an annual performance review by the Human Resources Team led by the Church Moderator.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Must meet the biblical qualifications of I Tim 3:1-7; 4:13-16, and Titus 1:6-9; 2:7-8.
• Ordination preferred (or the commitment to pursue it once hired).
• Master’s of Divinity or equivalent degree.
• Some ministry or ministry related experience.

Gifts and Skills:

• Gift of preaching and teaching using primarily an expository approach.
• Gift of leadership with ability to persuade and coach others to realize and implement the Church’s vision.
• Gift of pastoral care/shepherding to meet the needs of the congregation.
• Ability to equip the body through discipling, encouragement and exhortation.
• Gift of music (leading worship) will be a plus.

Responsibilities/Tasks – All that are normally associated with pastoring and growing a  Church.

This is a full time position to replace our retiring pastor, and will provide a competitive starting salary for New Hampshire.

The Community – is located at the scenic junction of the Merrimack and Contoocook Rivers on the northern side of New Hampshire’s capitol city of Concord. The village of Penacook (within the city) is the fastest growing part of Concord and offers all the amenities of living in a small city while being close to hiking trails, hunting, fishing, water and winter recreation. There are several ski resorts within close proximity, and Beaver Meadows golf course is just 2 miles from the Church.

The greater metro area offers both colleges and junior colleges as well as the State’s Law School. There are several stage theaters, an indoor ice rink/Civic Center, the city library has multiple branches and the State Library is adjacent to the NH State House. The city has a full service hospital that is ranked excellent in 6 specialties. The area is home to a mixture of blue and white collar workers and professionals and three new multiple housing units have recently opened near the Church. Another is opening in the spring. A new shopping center near the Church has also opened.

The Church – Organized in 1856, the Church is housed in a traditional New England style building and has primary affiliation with American Baptist Churches USA (ABC VT/NH). We are also affiliated with United Church of Christ (NH Conference UCC), having merged an ABC church with a then Congregational Church in 1953.

We minister to a 15 mile radius and have a diverse, multi-generational congregation. We offer a mixed worship style of contemporary and traditional music, at a single 10 AM year round service time.

Beyond our pastor, we employ a pianist for Sundays, and a part time person who provides secretarial, book keeping and cleaning services (both of whom work with and report to the pastor).

We host community groups such as the Scouts, Narcotics Anonymous and TOPS (Take Pounds Off Sensibly) groups, as well the Open Door Community Kitchen (the area’s soup kitchen). We also host occasional Concord City meetings/events.
