The Senior Pastor shall lead the Church’s public worship and meetings; watch over the Church’s spiritual welfare in conjunction with the Board of Elders; teach, equip, and lead the members to fulfill the Church’s mission; and seek to present everyone mature in Christ. The Senior Pastor shall be primarily responsible for preaching the Word of God, leading the staff, and developing and communicating vision. The Senior Pastor shall be a member of the Board of Elders. The Senior Pastor shall be accountable to the Board of Elders. The Senior Pastor with the elders shall determine the spiritual direction and vison for the church and be responsible for implementing the vision.


  1. Spiritual Leadership
    • A mature Christian man who is known for irreproachable conduct in public and at home.
      • His character shall be governed by the standards enumerated in 1 Timothy 1:3-7; Titus 1:6-9; and 1 Peter 1:1-11.
    • Devoted to prayer, study of the Scripture, guarding the Church from error, directing the public services of the Church and encouraging godly living by word and example.
    • Reflects the heart of a servant leader (Philippians 2) and the sacrifice of a shepherd (Ezekiel 34, John 10).
    • Exhibits personal qualities marked by integrity and unquestionable honesty (James 3:1).
    • Earnestly seeks God’s will above all other possible motivations (Jeremiah 3:15).
    • Exhibits emotional health and maturity, is willing to acknowledge limitations and depends upon God each day for His grace.
    • Possesses a peacemaking spirit of cooperation and fellowship within the church body.
    • Is committed to using his spiritual gifts of leadership and preaching/teaching for pastoral ministry.
    • A skilled teacher and able to equip others to serve.
    • The Senior Pastor shall give unreserved acceptance of and agreement with the doctrinal statement of the Evangelical Free Church of America
  2. Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required, Master’s degree (in related field) or higher preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in pastoral ministry, including shepherding a church, leadership, development and supervision of staff and preaching/teaching.
    • The Senior Pastor shall be or intend to be a member in good standing with the Evangelical Free Church Ministerial Association.
      • If, upon election by the Church a pastor is not ordained or licensed by the Ministerial, he shall begin the process of seeking a license or ordination within the first year of his ministry and is expected to complete the licensing or ordination within four (4) years after the date of his election.
      • A pastor seeking licensing or ordination shall be accountable to the Board of Elders for obtaining such credentials.
      • The Board of Elders is accountable to the Members to see that each pastor is licensed or ordained by the Evangelical Free Church Ministerial Association.



  • Relational Care:
    • Demonstrates love for people within and outside the church with a Christ-like concern for their entire well-being, providing for their needs as appropriate in a pastoral role.
    • Demonstrates hospitality and provides biblical counsel, while caring for those who do not know Christ.
    • Serves as protector of the flock of Trinity Church and the reputation of Jesus Christ by their behaviors and actions (Acts 20:28).
  • Reporting Structure and Partnerships:
    • Reports to the Elder Board for accountability, support, and communication of ministry progress and objectives.
    • Functions as a voting member of the Elder Board.
    • Responsible for ensuring the recruiting, training, and supervision of all Church Staff.
    • Meets with Church Staff to provide encouragement, direction, and performance evaluation.
    • Meets with Trinity Community Preschool Director and serves as an ambassador between the church leadership and preschool families.
  • Congregational Care:
    • Exhibits Christ’s love by developing positive and encouraging relationships within the church body.
    • Ensures counseling/mentoring services are available, as needed.
    • Oversees special services and events such as weddings, funerals, prayer meetings, baptisms, communion, child dedications, and ministry ordinations.
    • Collaborates with developing care ministries.


  • Vision-Casting:
    • Seeks God’s direction to develop the vision for Trinity Church and implements that vision in a way that maximizes available gifts and resources.
    • Presents objectives and steps to implement the vision in collaboration with the elder board.
  • Staff Leadership:
    • Continually evaluates effectiveness of programs, inviting and proposing creative ideas for
    • Spiritual oversight of the church staff through providing ongoing discipleship, mentoring and support of church staff.
    • Oversees any classes, seminars, or courses for the purpose of fulfilling the mission of Trinity Church.
  • Congregational Leadership:
    • Nurture working relationships with staff, the Elder Board, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
    • Oversee the development and training of leaders for ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13).
    • Challenges and inspires the congregation to be transformed personally and corporately by the Holy Spirit.
    • Building on an established foundation of worship, outreach, and family ministries, seeks to guide the congregation into developing deeper relationships and becoming leaders who serve and sacrifice for each other and those in our community, demonstrating the love of Christ and reaching out to our community and world for Christ (Matthew 5:16).


  • Seek to discern God’s message and spend significant time and study to develop and deliver that message (2 Timothy 4:2).
  • Effectively communicate God’s Word with clear, relevant application.
  • Oversees a robust ministry of effective teaching/preaching.
  • Able to deliver sound Biblical sermons on both the Old and New Testament.
