Job Description:

Who is North Harbor?

North Harbor Community Church is a church with an average attendance of about 45 people on a weekly basis (35 adults, 10 children). Our mission is simple: to lead people toward a growing relationship with Jesus.

We are a church united on following the way, teaching and worship of Jesus.  Our congregation is theologically and philosophically diverse, but we are united in our effort to love our neighbors, be a blessing to our local community, and gather on a regular basis to fellowship, learn, worship, and pray with each other. For us, church happens in our regular day-to-day interactions with our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers as much as it does on Sunday mornings. We have adopted the Apostle’s Creed as our basic tenet of faith. We believe that we can collectively hold on to the core beliefs of historic Christianity while also making space for each person to walk with Jesus and discern the particulars of Christian life in a way that makes sense to each individual. As a community of followers, we are committed to practicing the ways of Jesus by centering love, grace, mercy, and compassion as important principles of our spiritual walk; we emphasize the practice of sharing our resources generously with each other, taking care of the poor, hungry, and the marginalized in our community, and working towards justice in all areas of our lives and our society.

Job Description:

  • The Senior Pastor will report to the Board of Directors–which is composed of Church Partners who are voted by the membership to serve on three year terms.
  • The Senior Pastor serves as the primary preacher for Sunday morning services and will be in charge of coordinating, though not necessarily leading themselves, all elements of worship such as Scripture readings, prayer, communion, music, etc.
  • She or he will be responsible for the primary administrative duties of the church such as paying bills, communicating with the church’s bookkeeper, and working with the board of directors around budget issues, re-signing our lease agreement with our landlord, etc.
    • He or she will also coordinate, with the help of church partners, the purchase of supplies for different ministries and for the maintenance of the church.
  • They will work with the Board of Directors to create a vision for the church.
  • They will be responsible for encouraging and recruiting church attendees to sign up for volunteer positions.
  • The Senior Pastor will be the primary provider of pastoral care for church members.
  • She or he will also serve as the primary person in charge of coordinating the church’s ministries which include:
    • Women’s, Men’s, Children’s, and Youth Group.
    • The Senior Pastor will not be expected to lead all these ministries, but to work with the congregation in identifying and training leaders to help host these different ministries.
    • The Senior Pastor will assist as needed.

This is a part time salaried position to account for about 20-25 hours of work per week. Working together with the Board of Directors, the Senior pastor will create their own schedule and will have flexibility in determining where and how their work will happen throughout the week. If there is interest, and as our church grows, we can anticipate increasing the Senior Pastor’s role, responsibility, and compensation, or, we could hire an additional part time position to assist with additional church responsibilities.

The salary range will be between $35,000.00 and $45,000.00 depending on experience, plus two to four weeks of paid time off depending on experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Live a life that is congruent with the teachings of Jesus and that strives to embody a vibrant and healthy spirituality.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience delivering weekly sermons.
  • Adequate theological and ministerial training.
  • Ability to provide pastoral care to the congregation.
  • Willingness to lead by example and humbleness to ask for help when needed.
