Stratford Park Bible Chapel
Champaign, IL, USA
Job Type: Adult Pastor
Other Details

Stratford Park Bible Chapel (SPBC)(www.stratfordpark.net) is an independent, elder-ruled congregation located in central Illinois, at Champaign/Urbana, home to the University of Illinois. We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our pastoral team and share in the responsibility of shepherding the families in our care. The chapel is home to some 220+ members, with a healthy representation of all ages.

The ideal candidate for SPBC is a strong Biblical teacher gifted in expository preaching, who also enjoys an administrative bent. The ability to plan and conduct a variety of services, as well as provide general oversight to the ministries of the church are key requirements. We are looking for a humble individual who is a team player and who embodies the qualities of a servant leader.

Position Summary
SPBC currently supports two pastors in this position, and we are posting to replace a retiring elder/pastor who has been on staff for thirty years. We value longevity! But we also value mutual support in ministry. All of our elders, whether engaged in vocational ministry or not, are equally valued and decisions are made by consensus. As a result, we are not looking for a CEO style of leadership. We are looking for a gifted man to serve humbly in a group context as the entire board seeks to shepherd the Lord’s people.

Qualifications

  • Meet the Biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership as set out in I Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9.
  • Exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.
  • An earned M. Div. or similar theological degree from a well-respected evangelical institution.
  • Be gifted in teaching and administration.
  • Exhibit a strong call to ministry.
  • Preferably have a healthy mix of life experience and ministry experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preach approximately twenty sermons per year as assigned.
  • Teach adult Sunday School a similar number of times as assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings and elders’ meetings.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to various ministries as assigned.
  • Participate in the full life of the church, including all services as available.
  • Attend to general pastoral responsibilities such as visitation, weddings, funerals, & counseling.
  • Develop your own particular gifts, whether in music, youth ministry, evangelism or more.
  • Love the saints, equipping and training them for ministry.
