Overview:

Christ Church is seeking a Spiritually mature disciple who has a calling to reach, disciple, and equip youth with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The ideal candidate will have experience and specialized training in the area of Youth Ministry, Biblical Studies, or Christian Education. Christ Church is a growing, contemporary, outwardly focused, United Methodist Church, located in Fairfax Station, Virginia, with Spiritual and practical resources to make a difference in the National Capital Area and around the world.

Responsibilities

• Work with the pastors to oversee the spiritual formation of youth from 7^th to 12^th 
• Provide Biblical instruction in the matters of faith, life and practice.
• Strategize and develop a comprehensive program for youth that invite young people into a relationship with Jesus Christ, disciples them toward maturity in faith, and deploys them in ministry in Christ’s name.
  • This includes Sunday Morning Worship Ministry, Wednesday Night Discipleship, Confirmation, Mission and Outreach Programs, Small Groups, and Retreats.
• Recruit, train, and supervise a team of adult leaders to invest in Youth Ministry.
• Shepherd families to deepen their relationships with Christ and His Church through worship, discipleship, and service.
• Share the story of what Christ is doing in Youth Ministry through communication media.
• Assist with developing ministry structures, policies, procedures and systems of accountability for effective and fruitful results.
• Fulfill administrative responsibilities including budgets, church council reports, annual statistics, weekly staff meetings and communication strategies.
• Engage as a member of Christ Church completing the Membership Class within one year of the hire date.
• Set a strong example of discipleship by prioritizing personal growth in faith.
• Abide by Christ Church’s Safe Sanctuary Policy and all requirements outlined in the Christ Church Personnel Handbook.

Qualifications

• Spiritual Maturity – The ideal candidate will be a person with a clear testimony of faith in Christ and a commitment to a lifestyle that demonstrates Christlikeness.
• Experience – The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of successful vocational experience in Youth Ministry. Other vocational church experience or significant volunteer youth experience will be considered.
• Calling – The ideal candidate will articulate a sense of call to youth ministry, evangelism, and discipleship. This candidate’s life will demonstrate a love for relating with youth and connecting them to Christ.
• Education – The ideal candidate will have a seminary degree or at least a bachelor’s degree and other specialized training in a field related to Youth Ministry, Biblical Studies, or Christian Education. Other educational or vocational training may be considered.
• Theological Depth – The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to think theologically and apply foundational theological ideas to life and ministry in an engaging way.
• Christ Church Compatibility – The ideal candidate will be adept in connecting the historic orthodox faith with the lives and struggles of Northern Virginia youth and families in an engaging, inviting way.
  • They will be comfortable supporting the broad theological standards and uniqueness of the UMC.
  • These include infant and believer baptism and women in ministry.
• Contemporary Issues – The ideal candidate will have the ability to exegete popular culture and be gifted in discussing sensitive issues of gender and sexuality that confront youth today.
• Leadership – The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to recruit and develop leaders, both students and adults.
• Diversity – The ideal candidate will be adept in building relationships with students and parents from multi-cultural backgrounds.
• Communication – The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to communicate well in multiple media (Oral, written, and through technology / social media).
• Requirements of the Ministry – The ideal candidate will choose a missional lifestyle that will allow them to work many evenings, weekends, and holidays to be engaged in the lives of youth and families.
