Overview
This is a great opportunity to lead and grow our established youth ministry and to succeed our long-time music director and worship leader who recently retired. We are an independent, innovative, non-denominational Christian church that has been serving our community for generations with a particular passion for helping children and their families. This is a prominent position of leadership in our Church.
Youth Pastor Position Summary
The position of Youth Pastor will support the Pastor and lead teachers and those children in grades 5-12 to experience Jesus through ministry programming and other experiences.
Music Director Position Summary
The position of Music Director and Worship Team Leader includes leading weekly rehearsals, Sunday morning worship services and services for Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and special events. Ideally, the Worship Leader should be able to lead our worship services with piano, guitar, voice or other musical skills.
Additional Duties
Several additional duties exist and include assisting the Pastor (and potentially preaching for the Pastor on occasion), leading small groups, assisting with church social media communications as well as attendance at youth and worship conferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Be in whole-hearted agreement with Union Church’s (UC) Statement of Faith, Church Covenant, Vision and Mission. Please see these documents attached or refer to sofox.org.
- Develop a vision for both ministries in alignment with UC mission and continuously improve them.
- Grow the youth group’s online presence.
- Lead and facilitate weekly youth group gatherings, Bible studies, small groups and discipleship with primary focus on knowing Christ as Savior and growing the strength of that relationship.
- Establish and maintain healthy, caring relationships with the students, ensuring personal care and attention towards their spiritual formation and discipleship.
- Lead and plan Winter and Summer Retreats and Camps, mission trips, community service events and identify other special projects and opportunities.
- Build relationships with parents and communicate effectively with the entire church family.
- Provide counsel where appropriate and training for parents of teenagers as requested.
- Recruit, evaluate, motivate and approve volunteers from within the church body to serve in the church’s youth ministry.
- Lead and facilitate weekly music rehearsals with the worship team.
- Establish, build and maintain healthy, caring relationships with the worship team including excellent communication with a thoughtful team-unifying approach.
- Provide communication with Pastor, church Administrator and Worship Team surrounding music selection.
- Build relationships with the church family.
- Recruit, evaluate and approve new members for the worship team as needed.
- Be trained in the Union Church Child Care Policy and train all volunteer leaders at least annually and train new volunteers.
- In conjunction with the church, help facilitate evangelistic efforts to reach out to the surrounding community.
- Ensure the ministry is fully integrated into the life of the church as a whole.
- Participate in worship services.
- Emerge as a thoughtful contributor in leadership meetings.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Committed, born-again, Biblically knowledgeable Christian of good reputation (1Timothy 3:1-7) in good standing with family and community.
- Morally pure with a commitment to personal spiritual growth.
- Possessor of a genuine love for people with pure motivations who models Christ’s love, grace and mercy through words and actions.
- Gifted in connecting with students and parents.
- Communicates well with leadership and members of the church.
Youth Ministry Experience
- Several years of leadership experience working with teens (developing, organizing and leading lessons and discussions and experience planning and leading camps and retreats).
- Relevant ministry degree is preferred but not required for experienced candidates.
Worship Music Director Experience
- Several years of experience either participating as a worship team member or leading a worship team.
Compensation: This is a full-time salaried position which includes health insurance and paid vacation time.
