Emmanuel Baptist Church (Parkersburg, WV) – Senior Pastor

Emmanuel Baptist Church, located in Parkersburg, WV, is seeking a full-time Senior Pastor to lead us in our mission of engaging our congregation in L.I.F.E. (L = Loving God, I = Including Others, F = Finding Connection, E = Engaging Community), by equipping members for leadership and ministry, opening doors for our community in need of ministry, and creating an atmosphere that encourages authentic worship. Emmanuel Baptist Church is affiliated with the West Virginia Baptist Convention, and American Baptist Churches, USA.

As the spiritual leader of the church, the Senior Pastor will be responsible for the spiritual well-being of the congregation, working in close cooperation with the Diaconate and the Board of Ministry. Primary responsibilities include:

1. Preaching and Worship: Have full charge over all public worship services, delivering engaging, biblically-based sermons that align with the church’s Statement of Faith. Administer the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism.
2. Spiritual Leadership and Pastoral Care: Provide spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and counseling to the congregation. Foster the development of Christian character within the church and the local community.
3. Administrative Leadership: Serve as an advisory member to all boards, committees, and functions of the church. Administer the church’s activities in cooperation with the Diaconate and the various committees of the Board of Ministry.
4. Discipleship and Education: Support and guide the educational ministries of the church, including Sunday School and Bible studies, to deepen the faith of our members.
5. Community and Mission: Fulfill our purpose of demonstrating the love of God and sharing the salvation available through Jesus Christ, and endeavoring to bring His love and salvation to all people.

General Statements of Belief:

1. We believe all human beings are created in the image of God, but that every person has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory.
2. We believe human beings need God.
3. We believe the creational design for marriage is found in Genesis 2:24 and Matthew 19: “a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
4. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust.
5. We believe that heaven and hell are real and that their reality should motivate everyone to consider what they believe about God and where they will spend eternity.
6. We believe God has called believers together to do God’s work.
