Responsibilities
The Pastor of the Alton campus of BeFree Community Church will have the responsibilities outlined below. He will be a full-time employee who is accountable to the Alton elders and members primarily and to the other BeFree pastors collegially to perform in these areas:
- Create a gospel-centered environment of spiritual health and unity where believers are integrating their love for God, for one another, and for their neighbors. (John 17:20-23, Matthew 22:36-40)
- Preach the original intent and contemporary application of God’s Word in an accurately clear and compelling way so that hearers are challenged, changed and conformed more to the image of Christ. (2 Timothy 4:1-2, Titus 2:1,7-8)
- Encourage and Equip:
- Skeptics/seekers by befriending, listening, explaining, challenging and modelling Christ for them. (Colossians 4:5-6, Ephesians 5:1-2, Matthew 5:16)
- Christ-followers through effective teaching and by helping them grow and to discover and use their unique gifting and passions to serve Christ by serving others and helping to make disciples. (Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Peter 4:10, Matthew 28:19-20)
- Leaders (staff, Elders and ministry leaders) by guiding them toward God’s next steps in their personal development and ministry to the church family. (1 Thessalonians 5:11, Colossians 3:16-17)
- Facilitate regular meetings with elders, staff and ministry leaders to help them create a vision, plan and reach their goals together in their respective areas (home groups, worship, children and youth ministries, etc.). (Hebrews 10:23-25)
- Care for the needs of our church family by being available and willing to help, counsel, teach and pray for them. (Galatians 6:2, Romans 12:10,15, Philippians 2:3-4, Colossians 1:9-12, 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12)
- Partner with the other BeFree pastors to pray, share ideas, needs and be genuinely committed to one another. (Philippians 1:3-5, Acts 20:28)
Qualifications
- A personally transformative, biblical faith in Jesus Christ.
- Spiritual and moral character and lifestyle consistent with this faith, fulfilling the biblical leadership qualifications of an elder described in Titus 1:6-9 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
- Full affirmation of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) Statement of Faith https://www.efca.org/sof.
- Education: Master’s-level Biblical proficiency and pastoral training.
- Willingness to become credentialed with the EFCA in the first year of ministry.
- Experience carrying out responsibilities similar to those identified above preferable but not required.
