Narrative

This individual would function as the “tip of the spear” for the congregation as we seek to become more woven into the fabric of our community, as well as our resident expert when it comes to understanding the unique needs, strengths, resources and vulnerabilities within our community. Over time, this person would present College Church as a willing partner that is here to serve. This person should be familiar with Asset-Based Community Development, be comfortable interacting with a wide range of people and be able to present College Church winsomely to the public. This person will have an entrepreneurial spirit, be fiercely and fearlessly relational, an initiator, bridge-builder and opportunity finder. They will have a “nose” for detecting common ground and common cause. They will keep the needs, strengths and opportunities of the community before the congregation, cast vision, and mobilize the congregation to show up and serve in meaningful ways. Most importantly, they will work with the congregation to identify and sustain meaningful, ongoing partnerships in the community that serve the vulnerable.

Core Competencies:

  • Asset-Based Community Development.
  • Bridge-Building.
  • Volunteer Mobilization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a “boots on the ground” presence and present a posture of servanthood.
  • Develop meaningful, ongoing partnerships within the city to serve the city—especially the vulnerable.
  • Train and mobilize the congregation to do justice, with a heart of mercy in a spirit of humility—locally.

Teamwork / Other Expectations

  • Meet regularly with Senior Pastor for prayer, encouragement and supervision.
  • Be present at least 42 Sundays per year.
  • If/when possible, attend weekly staff meetings (Wednesdays, 9:30am).
