Overview
Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church (WEFC) is looking for a part-time musically gifted and follower of Jesus to oversee our weekly Sunday morning worship services. WEFC exists “to know and share Jesus for the joy of all people.” WEFC was founded over 135 years ago and is a multi-generational bible-believing church located in the historic town of Wethersfield, Connecticut.
Position Summary
The Worship Director provides leadership for the WEFC weekly Sunday morning worship services. This involves developing worship leaders and teams, overseeing the tech team and participating in the worship.
We desire worship that glorifies God, edifies His people, and equips us to live out our faith. Our worship philosophy is based on five principles.
- Praise: God-centered and God-saturated worship, aligned with biblical teaching.
- Participation: Worship is the response of the people of God.
- Proclamation: Through our worship service, it is our aim to represent the gospel.
- Peoples: The focus of the gospel is “all peoples” and all cultures.”
- Practice: Regular corporate worship individually shapes us and our worldview.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead worship services/ gatherings: Partner with the Lead Pastor to design gospel-centered worship services that reflect the church’s philosophy of worship.
- Sunday Leadership: Lead worship for Sunday services and special holiday services, such as Advent and Easter. Foster an environment that encourages authentic, participatory worship.
- Rehearsals: Organize and lead weekly rehearsals, equipping vocalists and musicians to serve with excellence.
- Shepherd and Develop Worship Teams: Invest in the spiritual and musical growth of team members, cultivating a community that values humility, collaboration, and Christ-centered worship.
- Oversee Tech Teams: Manage the church’s audio, Media Shout and livestream systems to ensure seamless support for worship gatherings and other church events.
- Administrative Duties: Manage schedules, teams, budgets, and equipment.
Qualifications
- Must be a committed follower of Jesus and possess good Christian character.
- Proven worship ministry experience and musical proficiency and ability.
- Ability to play an instrument such as guitar, piano, or keyboard is preferred.
- Strong theological foundation (formal theological or Bible education is preferred).
- Able to organize and lead volunteer leaders and teams.
- Experience ministering, discipling and/or teaching in a growing church is preferred.
- Experience working as part of a ministry team.
- Proven ability to work with limited supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player with effective human relational skills.
- Agree with WEFC’s Mission, Doctrinal Statement and Philosophy of Worship.
- Must be authorized to legally work in the US without sponsorship.
Reporting Relationship
- Reports directly to the Lead Pastor.
- Accountable to the WEFC Elder Board.
- Provides written annual report regarding worship for congregational meeting.
Compensation
- $25,000 to $35,000 based on experience and hours per week.
- Church housing in lieu of compensation if desired.
- Part-time, 20 to 25 hours per week.
- Flexible work schedule and office hours.
- Eligible for PTO (vacation and sick leave) according to WEFC Policy.
