Position Summary:

Bethany Congregational Church in Quincy, MA is seeking a minister with a strong biblical foundation, a deep commitment to scripture-based teaching, and a passion for community engagement. We are looking for a spiritual leader who can connect the timeless messages of the Bible to our everyday lives and guide our congregation in meaningful, authentic faith formation.

The ideal candidate will be approachable, relatable, and inspired to bring God’s word to life through dynamic preaching, teaching, and active community involvement. We envision a leader who will not only nurture our church family but also help us extend Christ’s love beyond our walls.

Key Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership:

• Deliver weekly sermons that are biblically grounded and relevant to contemporary life.
• Plan and lead Sunday worship services in coordination with the music director.
• Facilitate Bible studies, small groups, and prayer gatherings.
• Provide pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual guidance to individuals and families.

Community Engagement:

• Cultivate strong relationships within the city of Quincy and surrounding communities.
• Represent the church at local events, festivals, and public gatherings.
• Build partnerships with civic leaders, nonprofit organizations (e.g., Father Bill’s, Interfaith Social Services), and neighboring churches.
• Support and expand outreach efforts related to food insecurity, homelessness, and youth services.

Congregational Development:

• Encourage spiritual growth and connection among members of all ages.
• Support and collaborate with the Sunday School and Young Adults programs.
• Work closely with the Board of Deacons and other lay leaders to strengthen congregational life.

Administrative and Operational Oversight:

• Attend and participate in church administrative functions and meetings.
• Oversee church staff, tenants, and the church preschool, in collaboration with the church administrator.
• Assist in securing new rentals and managing existing property use.
• Maintain general oversight of church operations.

Qualifications:

• Master of Divinity or equivalent theological education preferred.
• Ordination in a recognized Christian denomination (UCC affiliation a plus).
• Demonstrated experience in preaching, teaching, and pastoral care.
• Strong interpersonal and relational skills.
• Passion for community outreach and social justice.
• Experience working with youth and young adults is highly valued.
• Willingness to live in or near Quincy (within 30–40 minutes) to foster accessibility and community involvement.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary: Commensurate with experience.
