Job Type: Interim Pastor,Lead/Head/Senior Pastor
Other Details

Tabernacle Presbyterian Church is called by God, led by faith in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to demonstrate the Kingdom of God through worship, discipleship and outreach.

Our Senior Pastor of +/- 13 years retired Summer 2023.  Congregational survey (Holy Cow in ’24) reflects a Christ-centered (leans conservative) congregation living out its vision in the community of Mapleton-Fall Creek on the near-northside of Indianapolis. This community is a mix of low-resourced households along those which are more affluent. It\’s located in an urban setting with currently a large African American population (50%), Hispanic and Caucasian residents. The congregation itself is primarily Caucasian.  A combination of supporting existing ministries and “Tab-birthed” ministries address many of our neighbor’s emerging needs. Tab currently has long-standing programs that provide many services, including Tab Recreation, a vibrant youth sports program which dates back to 1924. Tab-birthed ministries include The Oaks Academy, Raphael Health Center and the Neighborhood Legal Clinic.  Tab also has a 3X/week soup kitchen, public school tutoring and other ongoing programs.

The Interim Pastor will serve as lead pastor, responsible for the overall direction of the church, session, staff and volunteers. That person would find assistance through a staff including a minister of music, treasurer, facilities, some mission staffing as well as a part-time transitional associate pastor and a part-time director of administration.  We had an interim pastor last year who perceived we were a different church given our urban campus.  Our survey confirmed by an outside consultant confirm our priorities in seeking a pastor who subscribes to Reformed Theology and expository preaching.  We also seek medium to large-church experience; pastoral and administrative gifts; ensuring the care of home-bound members; understanding of, support for, and promotion of our vision statement. Soft skills desired: clear and transparent communicator; compassionate; good interpersonal skills; positive, servant-leadership attitude with sense of humor.
