Description of Position

Community Church of Providence (American Baptist Churches, USA) is a diverse and inclusive congregation in Providence, RI.  Candidates from other denominations are encouraged to apply.

The part-time Associate Pastor for Families will become a part of a collaborative ministry team with strong volunteer support, and, in addition to specializing in ministry with children and their families, is encouraged to serve in a wide range of ministry areas depending on her/his interests and gifts (social justice, worship, preaching, pastoral care).  We aim to provide a foundational and enriching environment for our children and youth, enabling them to experience God’s love, grow in their faith and discipleship, and discover opportunities to serve others.

While there is flexibility, we envision a position of between 20-30 hours per week.  There is potential for this position to become full-time in the future.

The part-time Associate Pastor for Families will be responsible for:

  • Providing hands-on leadership and growth for ministries to children and youth and their families, including but not limited to Sunday morning Christian Education.
  • Planning activities for children, youth, and their families, including opportunities to fellowship, explore the community/nature, lead in worship, and give back in service.
  • Creating opportunities for engagement with children and youth during the summer months, especially during our CCOP Kids’ Week.
  • Serving in other areas of ministry, dependent upon gifts and interests.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the well-being of children and youth and their development.
  • Experience working with young people in comparable settings.
  • Openness to theological diversity.
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity and initiative.
  • Willingness to work as a team with volunteers and church staff.
  • Theological education (whether MA/MDiv or degree in process), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
