Job Description
Title: Associate Pastor of Intergenerational Ministry & Christian Education

Accountable to: Senior Pastor/Head of Staff

Position Summary of Purpose: To demonstrate a vibrant, vital, and growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ and a commitment in developing a more cohesive approach to intergenerational ministry and coordinating Christian Education, as well as, working closely with the Head of Staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Intergenerational Ministry.
  • Share with the Pastor in the leadership of Sunday Worship and special services throughout the year.
  • Share preaching responsibilities, particularly when the Pastor is away.
  • Share with the Pastor in the ministry of officiating weddings and funerals.
  • Share with the Pastor in the Church’s ongoing pastoral ministry to the Church’s membership, which will include visiting those in hospitals, nursing homes and convalescent centers, as well as meeting with others seeking counsel.
  • Share with the Pastor in the teaching ministry of the Church. 
    • This would include LOGOS/Wednesday Night Together (WNT) program, special Bible studies, officer training, new member classes, et.
  • Share with the Pastor in coming alongside Church committees, especially in the areas of missions, congregational care, and membership/outreach.
  • Strategize with the Pastor the development of an intergenerational program for all ages (LOGOS/WNT) that integrates the two Sunday morning cultures into one cohesive body.
  • Coordinate, in consultation with the Pastor, programming for this new form of LOGOS/WNT.

Christian Education

  • Serve as the overall coordinator of the Church’s ministry of Christian Education.
  • Work with the Christian Education Committee in providing relevant support for the Church as it relates to our Christian Education programs (Church school, LOGOS/WNT, Bible studies, small groups, retreats, etc.).
  • Coordinate and equip the adult Sunday School program.
  • Coordinate planning and scheduling for special programs, such as short-term studies, combined summer classes, Church School socials, etc.
  • Provide leadership to the Church’s ministry with older adults, including Saints Alive.
  • Provide support to the Director of Childrens Ministry and help coordinate program scheduling that integrates well with the larger Church body.
  • Work closely with the Associate Pastor of Youth Adults to help strategize ministry to parents and families, as well as, single adults.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Session meetings.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and calendar planning meetings.
  • Participate in annual staff performance review.
  • Participate in sessional committees most appropriate to position descriptions (CE) and engage with other committees when called upon.
  • Be available to accept invitations to lead events or workshops in other settings or churches, as approved by the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff.
  • Participate in professional support groups, continuing education, and training events; participation in these to be in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
  • Secure all required documentation required for Church sponsored events and Church policies.
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be a dynamic, enthusiastic, creative, and inspirational leader who radiates the joy of Christ.
  • Must be of high moral character and integrity and be a humble and sincere servant led by Christ.
  • Must value tradition, but also have a vision for the future.
  • Must have good communication and listening skills.
  • Must demonstrate good rapport with all ages and be a team player with staff.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to the overall mission of the Church.
  • Must have the ability to teach the basic tenants of the Christian faith and how to apply these to life situations.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have undergraduate and seminary degrees, as well as, the credentials to be ordained in the ECO denomination.
  • Must be able to sign off on the ECO tenets.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership in ministries in a Church setting.
  • Must have a basic understanding of ECO polity and procedures.
