Church Profile
CFCB is a non-denominational church of two congregations (Chinese and English) consisting of approximately 400 members. We are a group of people whose lives have been transformed by the Gospel and eagerly serve the people in the Bay Area. CFCB currently holds three worship services on Sundays (two Chinese services and one English service). In addition, CFCB features multiple Chinese fellowships (10) and English fellowships (5) that meet throughout the week based on various age groups and localities.

Position Overview
The Chinese Minister will help further the vision of CFCB of “building up a Gospel-Centered Church” as part of the Chinese Pastoral team in leading and cultivating the various ministries of the Chinese Congregation. This position shall report to the Senior Pastor of CFCB.

Qualifications

  • The Chinese Minister shall meet the New Testament requirements for the office of elder as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
  • As a minister of the Gospel, the Chinese Minister shall be devoted to his calling of service to Christ and His Church, faithfully giving himself to the flock at CFCB in the spirit of 1 Th. 2:7-12; Acts 20:28.
  • The Chinese Minister shall be a humble servant-leader as described in John 13 and 1 Pet 5: 1-4 to set a Biblical example in teaching and living for the entire church body.
  • The Chinese Minister shall pledge to uphold the constitution and bylaws of CFCB.
  • The Chinese Minister will be an active and collaborative member of the pastoral team, committed to mutual support, shared leadership, and unity under the guidance of the Senior Pastor. 

Responsibilities and Expectations

     1. Community

  • To join as a member of CFCB.
  • To love and be loved, to know and be known by the members of CFCB.
  • To be fully immersed and participate in the life, mission, and vision of CFCB.
  • To direct the assimilation of new members into the life of the congregation.
  • To encourage all ministries of the Chinese Congregation to carry out their work with an emphasis on welcoming others to participate in the mission work of Christ.

     2. Vision and Planning

  • Support the vision of CFCB.
  • Contextualize the CFCB vision to the UC Berkeley Chinese Students Ministry with the supervision of the Senior Pastor.
  • Initiate and lead all phases of strategic planning of the Chinese Students Ministry under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.
  • Review and propose budgetary and facility planning as needed.
  • Review and propose any safety and security-related measures and policies as needed.

     3. Worship Service

  • Assist the Senior Pastor in planning the Sunday worship service of the Chinese congregation if needed.
  • Assist the senior Pastor to lead the Preaching the Word of God ministry as written in the Old and New Testaments for Chinese Congregation.
  • Assist the senior Pastor in ministering the Lord’s Supper monthly and the Baptism of the Chinese congregation.

    4. Teaching and Discipling

  • Provide necessary training and guidance for the ministry leaders with the supervision of the Senior Pastor.
  • Provide one-on-one discipleship training as needed.
  • Preach at least twice a month during the Chinese service.
  • Teach Adult Christian Education classes as necessary.
  • Provide Biblical counseling with referrals to other elders or professional counselors as necessary.

    5. Pastoral Caring

  • Work with church elders and pastoral staff to regularly visit the congregation.
  • Conduct visits to home-bound church members as necessary.
  • Conduct hospital visits as necessary.
  • Officiate marriages and conduct memorial services for church members.

   6. Church Leadership

  • Support the Senior Pastor in shepherding Chinese elders, deacons, and their families.
  • Support the Senior Pastor in equipping Chinese elders and deacons to grow as servant leaders.
  • Attend regular Pastor Deacon Board (PDB) meetings.
  • Participate in monthly church employee meetings (Pastoral staff meetings).
  • Participate in monthly meetings of the Chinese Ministry Committee.

    7. Ministry Responsibilities

  • Directly oversee the Chinese Students Ministry leadership teams, with an emphasis on students studying at UC Berkeley.
  • Establish the teaching and curriculum of the UC Berkeley Chinese Students Ministry.
  • Provide leadership and encouragement to the Chinese Students Ministry leadership team through training, resourcing, and modeling Christlikeness.
  • Keep a pastoral presence during the gatherings of the Chinese Students Ministry and other church ministries.
  • Be flexible and pivot to different potential ministry needs in the future.

    8. Relationship between this Job Position and the Call

  • The Call with the compensation and the benefits package will be determined by the Pastor Elder Board (PEB) and approved by the Pastor Deacon Board (PDB).
  • The Chinese Minister will serve under the terms of the Call.
  • The Chinese Minister’s work will be reviewed by the Senior Pastor and PEB before the end of the term of the Call and documented in a written format provided to the Chinese Minister.
  • The Chinese Minister’s review will precede the term review of the Call.
  • This job description may be revised as necessary.
