Director of Children and Youth Ministries

First Presbyterian Church

 Purpose: The Director of Children and Youth Ministries teaches the faith and equips the saints for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:12) by providing ministries of spiritual formation and education that present, nurture, and transform the faith and spirituality of children and youth (nursery through the twelfth grade) and their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop personal relationships with children and youth, and be a model, mentor, friend, and coach in their faith development.
  • Integrate children and youth into the overall life of the church and foster intergenerational relationships.
  • Envision, plan, and implement Christian education and spiritual formation programs for children and youth, in collaboration with their families.
  • In collaboration with the Communication’s Director, maintain active communication with families and promote active communication within families.
  • Support the recruitment and development of volunteers for children’s programs.
  • Evaluate at least annually and modify as appropriate curricula, classes, and activities (e.g., Sunday classes, summer programs, special events for families)
    to ensure their contributions toward the goal.
  • Provide organizational and staff oversight to the nursery.
  • Comply with First Presbyterian’s policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervising pastor.

Accountability: Supervised by pastor and accountable to the Session’s Personnel Committee.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; personal commitment to fulfill your ministry in obedience to Jesus Christ, under the authority of Scripture; experience and passion in working with children and youth ministries preferred; biblical knowledge; appreciation for the Reformed tradition of the PCUSA and Christian spirituality; demonstrated adept organizational and relational skills and the ability to work effectively on teams, to practice hospitality, and to foster healthy, positive interpersonal relationships.
