Director of Contemporary Worship

Union Church Hong Kong is a friendly, English-speaking, interdenominational church with a vision to build a home in Christ to seek, love, and serve God and our neighbors. We are looking for a full-time Director of Contemporary Worship who will report to the Senior Pastor. This role involves overseeing worship teams, planning services, and fostering a culture of worship that aligns with the church’s vision and theology.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning and leading Sunday’s contemporary worship services – reflecting of the seasons of the church calendar year and sermon themes.
• Modeling and leading heartfelt worship – that draws people in, encourages participation, and points people to God.
• Recruit, train and disciple worship team members (vocalists, musicians and technical volunteers) – providing pastoral support and encouragement.
• Equipping, organising, building up and training the worship leaders within the church to serve the congregation. Foster a team culture of humility, excellence and authentic worship.
• Conduct rehearsals to ensure musical excellence and spiritual preparedness encompassing (a) preparation for the Sunday services and (b) cultivation of a Christ-centered community.
• Collaborate with pastoral staff to design cohesive, thematic worship services that creatively build on our traditions, enhance the sermon and engage the congregation.
• Serving as a member of the worship ministry team at Union Church.
• Work with the AV/Production team to ensure high-quality sound, lighting and visual elements.
• Coordinating live streaming church services and digital recording.
• Assisting, participating, and collaborating with special productions and events including music selection and other creative elements, construction and implementation.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Vibrant mature Christian Faith with a heart for worship and discipleship.
• College or university degree in music, church music or related field of study, or comparable work experience.
• Sound theological training aligned with the church’s beliefs and values.
• Strong musical proficiency (vocals, instrument – typically guitar or keys).
• Proven experience building and leading church worship teams.
• Ability to arrange and adapt songs for various skill levels and congregational participation.
• Proficiency with worship software (Planning Center, ProPresenter, etc).
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills – able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Cultural sensitivity and awareness of contemporary worship trends.
• Servant-Leader.
