Job Title: English Ministry (EM) Pastor
Status: Full-Time
Accountability: The EM Pastor serves as an associate pastor under the supervision of the Senior Pastor, the person designated by the Senior Pastor, and/or the moderator of the Torrance First Presbyterian Church (TFPC) session.
Congregation: TFPC English Ministry was established in 2009. It consists of approximately 50+ members, primarily 1.5 and 2nd-generation Korean Americans, along with individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds. The age range spans from college students to parents with children of all ages.
Ministry Responsibilities:
- Provide pastoral, spiritual, and administrative leadership for the English Ministry.
- Preach and teach the Word of God biblically and passionately during Sunday worship services and special occasion (e.g., weddings, first birthdays, funerals).
- Shepherd the congregation by living out the gospel and equipping members to apply biblical truth in their daily lives.
- Plan and lead Bible studies, small groups, retreats, and special events in collaboration with lay leaders.
- Oversee membership development and care, including baptism, confirmation, and new members classes.
- Provide pastoral care for all members through consistent communication, visitation (home, hospital, workplace), and counseling-including premarital counselling.
- Engage and integrate the younger generation, including college and post-college individuals.
- lead the congregation in sharing Christ’s love through missions and outreach locally and
- globally, in cooperation with TFPC Mission Committee and other ministry partners.
- Support other TFPC departments and committees, including the Education Department,
- and participate in church-wide events to align with Christ’s will for unity as one church.
- Meet regularly with the EM Council to provide guidance, direction, and encouragement in developing new ministries and supporting existing ministries.
- Communicate ministry vision and goals clearly, and work collaboratively with the EM Council, Session, pastors and church staff, and ministry leaders.
Qualifications:
- Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary or divinity school where instruction is in English.
- Minimum of 5 years of ministry experience in youth, college, or English Ministry contexts.
- Ordained in the PC(USA) or a Presbyterian denomination, or familiar with Presbyterian polity and governance.
- English as a primary language – fluent in both writing and speaking.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
- Passion for discipleship and leadership development.
- Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, and communication skills to interact with both EM and KM congregants.
- Respectful understanding of Korean-American culture and customs to ensure a harmonious working relationship between EM and KM.
