Position Description – Family and Youth Coordinator

Organized in 1837, the Melvin Village Community Church provides a Christ centered environment for young and old to experience and share together in the richness and generosity of Christ. MVCC is a community church to both year-round residents and seasonal friends, all from varying denominational church backgrounds. We seek to meet people “where they are at” and build authentic relationships while deepening our personal relationship with God.

We do this through:

  • A commitment to Christ centered and Bible based worship for 60-100 on Sunday morning.
  • Congregation care and community outreach throughout the week.
  • Looking for ways to better serve the spiritual needs of youth, families, and adults in our community.
  • Monthly fellowship and community events (2nd Tuesday, 2nd Sunday, Youth group, Church family retreat, and special events).
  • Family and Youth Coordinator is responsible for enriching discipleship in the life of the church through Christian Educational programs and activities.

    • The coordinator will also work with the members of the church’s Christian Education (CE) Committee to ensure that the discipleship programs of the church match the philosophy and theology of the church.
    • The coordinator will also work closely with the Pastor by being willing to provide occasional pulpit supply and pastoral care.

We will expect you to:

  • Work with CE Committee and other committees to grow the church spiritually and sustain the church spiritually and fiscally, being a good steward of what God has entrusted to us.
  • Help create a culture and atmosphere that is welcoming to skeptics, seekers and nurturing to followers of Jesus Christ.

Accountabilities:

  • Work with the Christian Education (CE) Committee and Pastor to meet the needs of church families and youth.
  • Attend monthly CE Committee meetings.
  • Maintain contact list, outreach info, and fun facts for young families and youth.
  • Reach out specifically to young families or youth to notify of upcoming events.
  • Establish a Sunday School curriculum, and with the assistance of church volunteers, conduct and/or coordinate Sunday School on a weekly basis.
  • Research and order curriculum with buy-in and approval from CE Committee.
  • Provide Sunday School training to volunteer teachers as needed.
  • Provide Sunday School coverage as needed.
  • Organize, with volunteers, Sunday morning nursery coverage.
  • Periodically check classrooms and nursery for neatness, organization and supplies.
    • Coordinate with CE Committee for cleaning and organization.
  • Collaborate with the Pastor through efforts to “clearing the path to Christ” for local families to experience God and grow in their personal faith journey.
    • Reach out to youth and young families via phone, email, and/or visitation for prayer and support.
    • Attend Executive Board meeting once a month (1st Tuesday of the month, 7 PM – 9 PM).
  • Share a Biblical and encouraging message on occasional Sunday mornings.
    • Prepare a sermon/message – (e.g. once a quarter).o Preach occasionally or be a Worship Leader on a Sunday morning (e.g. last Sunday of month).
  • Lead Bible study for youth and adults by offering regular Bible studies for youth and adults.
  • Lead or organize regular young family and youth group events and outreach (teens and young adults).
    • Organize and Lead 2nd Tuesday game nights.
      Work with CE Committee to organize and lead special events such as Trunk-or-Treat or Cookie.

Decorating

  • Lead a youth group bible study or youth group event once a month.
  • Support spiritual needs of the church.
  • Assist in annual fundraisers and meetings (Feet for Fuel Walk, Fair & Auction, annual meeting).
  • Join-in special church functions such as Christmas and Easter events, church retreats, and game nights with the purpose of growing relationships and trust with the congregation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a follower of Jesus who seeks to honor God in all things (thought, word and deed).
  • Must be passionate about sharing and seeing the young and old grow and know God together and in personal relationship with God.
  • Must have a strong theological grasp of the Protestant faith and have openness to a wide variety of faith expressions within the Protestant community.
  • Preference given to someone with theological education.
  • Must be able to furnish: 2 professional letters of reference with contact information and 1 Protestant Pastor letter of reference with contact information.
  • Must have relevant training and experience. Experience can be in working with groups of people implementing projects or faith-based programs and include volunteer or paid positions.
  • Must be able to communicate via e-mail, phone, and in-person.
  • Must be able to lead and manage a multifaceted Biblical discipleship and possess the knowledge, skills, and capability to effectively operate in a distinctive environment.
  • Must submit and pass the background check.

Employment

The position shall be filled by the Executive Board. The position reports to the Pastor regarding immediate, day-to-day functioning; and to the Moderator in general, both of whom function on behalf of the Executive Board. An annual review will be conducted with the Pastor, Moderator, and a minimum of one (1) committee member from either the Christian Education, Deacons, and/or Pastoral Relations Committees.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $15,000 to $30,000, possible housing available, subject to negotiation.
  • Compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, including education and experience.
  • Work is performance based and hours may vary from week to week or month to month. It is estimated the successful candidate should expect to devote 20-30 hours per week to the position.
  • Two (2) weeks of paid vacation will be granted each year.
