The Kids Ministry Director is responsible for overseeing Trinity’s vibrant Kids Ministry (birth through grade 5) with the goal of helping disciple our kids to be rooted in Jesus, growing together, and serving our community. This will primarily be carried out through planning and executing Sunday morning programming and other special events, recruiting and developing a robust team of volunteers, and equipping families to disciple their kids at home.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and oversee Trinity’s Kids Ministry programs on Sunday mornings.
- In conjunction with the Associate Pastor of Youth and Families – plan, review, and implement all curriculum used by the Kids Ministry and ensure that it is consistent with Trinity’s doctrinal commitments.
- Identify, plan, and execute monthly Sunday service / outreach opportunities for Kids Ministry.
- Oversee the implementation of Kids Ministry check-in system.
- Plan and oversee special events related to children and families, such as holiday events and other family activities throughout the year.
- Recruit, develop, and empower Kids Ministry volunteers.
- Meet with Sunday School teachers 2 to 4 times a year for training and relationship building.
- Work with the Associate Pastor of Youth and Families to equip parents for discipleship in the home.
- Communicate vision, goals, and activities for Kids Ministry to parents.
- Update church database with information for kids and their families.
- Develop an annual budget for the Kids Ministry and operate within the constraints of that budget.
- Attend weekly staff meeting.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 1-3 years of experience working with kids of elementary age, preferably in a ministerial role.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers, church members, and staff members.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to problem solve creatively and use good discernment to make decisions on the fly.
- Ability to keep confidentiality when necessary.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Ability and desire to develop personal relationships with kids and families, helping them to feel known and cared for.
- Ability to lead with positivity and encouragement while managing groups of kids, and the ability to coach Kids Ministry volunteers in their classroom management skills when needed.
- Ability to interact with parents and families with sensitivity and compassion.
- Ability to navigate accommodations for students with disabilities.
Computer Skills:
- Must have knowledge of internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
- Ability to learn Planning Center software, Trinity’s database system.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
- Current Driver’s License.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Spiritual Requirements:
- Attend Trinity as their home church and have regular involvement in activities and events.
- A passion for discipling kids to follow Jesus in biblical truth and love, and to partner with parents toward that end.
- A growing Christian faith and character.
- A commitment to the mission and vision of Trinity.
- Signed acknowledgement of Trinity’s Statement of Faith and Staff Lifestyle Agreement.
- Signed acknowledgement of policies and procedures as stated in Trinity’s employee handbook.
