South Congregational Church is a Conservative Congregational Church affiliated with the 4C’s. We are an evangelical church with a congregational form of government located in historical Peabody, Massachusetts.  The Lead Pastor’s role focuses upon preaching and teaching the word of God, shepherding the congregation and the church staff.  Their focus is to be leading the congregation into spiritual maturity and equipping them together for the work of ministry as The Body of Christ.  The ideal candidate will also have experience in leading change, missional strategy, revitalization, leadership development and building teams.

Candidate Profile


  •  A deep personal relationship with Jesus and to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and demonstrating the spiritual requirements of an elder * in I Timothy 3:4-10, Titus 1:5-9 and called as one set apart for ministry Acts 13:1-3 and Ephesians 4:11-16.
  • A servant leader displaying humility as demonstrated in the Lord Jesus Philippians 2:5-11.
  • Seminary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of five years’ experience. **
  • Ordained or seeking ordination with the 4C’S denomination.
  • A minimum of five years of pastoral experience in a similar role with a proven track record of effective leadership, ministry development, and community outreach.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to connect with a diverse congregation and adapt to various ministry contexts.
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for empowering others and fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • A deep understanding of and commitment to the Bible, Christian theology, and the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, organize events, and work effectively under pressure.
  • A heart for pastoral care and the ability to provide compassionate and empathetic support to congregation members in times of need.
  • A turnaround pastor who can cast vision and mobilize and can lead decisively with faith for the future.

* Qualities of an Elder:

The candidate for Pastor shall possess qualities as expressed in such passages of Scripture as: I Tim.3:1-7,10; 5:22; Titus 1:6-9; I Peter 5:1-4. The primary qualification for a spiritual leader is their own life characterized by abiding in Christ (John 15), ongoing transformation into the likeness of Christ (Romans 12:1-2), and personal modeling of spiritual disciplines. If applicable, the candidate will demonstrate godly leadership and shepherding of the candidate’s spouse and family.

** Experience:

We place a high value on practical ministry experience. The ideal candidate shall have formal pastoral experience as a Senior/Solo minister or Associate/Assistant minister, youth ministry, or experience serving with a mission’s organization. The candidate shall have ordination status, licensure, or be on track to become licensed and ordained, through a denomination.
