Position Description

New Hope Presbyterian Church’s foundations go back to 1793. Its rich history is embedded in the community, and we tend to a more traditional Protestant worship format but are open to other styles of music. The Music Director will be dedicated to planning, scheduling, orchestrating, and performing all the musical aspects of worship services, including, but not limited to hymn selection (alongside the Pastor); performing as the pianist while directing the Choir; recruiting, rehearsing, and directing the worship instrumentalists and vocalists.

The choir mostly performs two-part material, and we have a library of approximately 100 pieces in this format with several hundred more in SATB. In addition, we have a new baby grand Steinway piano and a 3-octave Schulmerich handbell set.

Qualifications

The MD should be proficient in several styles of piano, especially sacred and spiritual. In addition, the MD will demonstrate successful leadership, encouragement and development of congregational singing. Availability for all worship services, as well as weddings and funerals is required. A college degree is preferred, with experience leading vocal ensembles.
