The role of the Care Pastor is to lead and equip volunteers and staff to provide care for New City Congregants.

The Care Pastor role is a compassionate and strategic leader who cultivates a culture of care across New City Church. This role mobilizes and equips staff and volunteers to walk alongside congregants in times of crisis, transition, and celebration—ensuring every person feels seen and supported.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Serve on the Leadership Team to advise Directional Team and connect Care efforts operationally throughout the organization.
  • Assist in the development of an annual departmental budget and manage spending to budget.
  • Perform other pastoral and leadership duties as assigned.

Responsive Pastoral Care:

  • Implement traditional pastoral care efforts with pastors and care teams at each congregation so that the church is prepared to help in crisis. Lead a team in the development of infrastructure to insure the existence of a solid “care environment” for all church attendees.
  • Function as a member of the pastoral staff performing baptism services, weddings, funerals, hospital visits, etc. In addition, establish and maintain a pastoral staff rotation (weddings, funerals, hospitalizations, baptism services, etc.) ensuring a pastor is available to the congregation when needed.
  • Help equip and encourage the pastoral staff, especially Congregation Pastors, to be great providers of care to the church.
  • Cultivate and Maintain a Prayer Team at NCC to pray for needs throughout the church.

Equipping to Care:

  • Create training initiative to train NCC leaders to care well for those in their circles and leadership.
  • Establish a Care Team at each location to function as (deacons) to serve the congregation’s needs. Shepherd team to learn to be great shepherds themselves.
  • Work on ways to provide NCC leaders with the best training on pastoral care and shepherding as discipleship.

Referrals for Care:

  • Champion our mental health initiative as part of Here, Near, and Far.
  • Help establish good systems to allow this to function well and for other staff to easily access these referrals.
  • Develop relationships with other care leaders and organizations within the city.
  • Establish, maintain, and expand a Christian counseling function at the church.

Care Groups and Classes:

  • Responsible for organizing and leading special short-term care groups to help to those who are hurting in our church and community. (Grief Share, Celebrate Recovery, Divorce Care, Financial Peace, Parenting, Marriage, et al). These should align and follow the Discipleship Journey framework that guides all New City events, classes, and groups.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience in discipleship ministry or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • A heart to care for those who are hurting in our church.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
  • A heart for discipleship and spiritual growth.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Ministry preferred

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:

  • EFCA Licensure preferred
