Central Baptist Church is the original town church of Southbridge, MA. We are a small socioeconomically and generationally diverse New England church which, though remaining small, has more than doubled in size in the last five years. We strongly believe God is inviting us to seek a part-time associate pastor to help shepherd us further into new pastures. Southbridge is a unique small town with urban concerns, and we look forward to making an increasing difference here with the love and grace of God in the coming years.

The associate pastor we seek needs to be energetic, compassionate, outreach-oriented, and community-minded. This person will need to have a heart for the “least of these” and the ability to be flexible to assist our lead pastor and congregational leaders in addressing the ever-changing needs of our church as they reflect the broader community. An ability to “think forward” instead of reactively will also be a great asset.

This position is not a “career move” in the traditional sense of the term, but you will receive invaluable ministry experience here that few other contexts will provide. CBC’s associate pastorate could be a good fit for a pastoral intern seeking to hone skills for the “next thing,” for a household where the non-pastoring adult is the primary wage earner—or for a person longing to see God glorified in the unknown places among ordinary people, who has gifts to disciple them to greater fruitfulness over the long haul.

In the interest of full disclosure, our church’s current situation is such that we do not know how much we will be able to pay this person, nor how many hours this part-time position will entail. Yet we believe the shepherd is worthy of his or her hire, have discerned that this is the crossroad where God has led us, and we trust Him to provide wisdom, funding, and time as we move forward.
