Responsibilities:

  • Participate in planning the Sunday morning and other special services with the Pastor and other ministerial staff, primarily in the selection and planning of music, within the parameters set by the Pastor.
  • Lead the congregation, praise team, and other ensembles/musicians in active, participatory worship. (Note: we hold worship services outdoors during the summer months.)
  • Recruit, equip, motivate, and shepherd the praise team and other musicians in the church, developing additional musical ensembles and soloists for services.
  • Organize and direct necessary rehearsals to prepare for upcoming worship services.
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely way with the Pastor and other staff.
  • Ensure that the church pianos and other music equipment are tuned, cleaned, and repaired as necessary.
  • Create lyric slides for projection and report song use to CCLI as required.
  • Produce and direct occasional special events and musical programs.
  • Maintain all music in an efficient manner.
  • Upon request, present budgetary needs for the music program to the finance team in preparation for the annual budget.
  • Pray regularly for the music ministry and the church.
  • Participate in the life and ministry of the church.

Qualifications:

  • Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Ability to shepherd volunteer musicians.
  • Evident musical skills and competence.
  • Proven ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate musicians and technical team members.
  • Strong team player with other staff and the congregation.
  • Familiarity and appreciation for the liturgies and calendar of Christian worship.
  • Committed to the church’s vision, leadership, and people.
  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music preferred.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a church-related setting.

Competencies:

  • Ability in wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) and praise music.
  • Ability to lead worship and to train others as individual and team worship leaders.
  • Ability to choose and arrange music suitable to the needs of the worshiping congregation.
  • Experience with technical aspects of services: for example, sound boards, video editing, etc.

Expectations & Compensation:

Compensation is $250 per week, on a salaried basis, which is approximately $30/hr. The position requires an average of 8 hours per week, with a minimum of 6 hours per week and occasionally up to 12 hours per week due to special events and the Lenten/Easter and Advent/Christmas seasons.

The work schedule is flexible at the discretion of the Director of Music, but hours must always include Sunday morning worship, one weeknight rehearsal, and any scheduled staff meetings unless on vacation or sick. Three weeks of paid vacation are included.

Note:

In the past, the impact of COVID upon the worship services required a significant change in the kind of work performed and included video and sound recording and mixing and learning the software necessary to help facilitate remote worship.  Should circumstances require suspension of our in-person gatherings, the responsibilities of the Director of Music will adjust to help facilitate virtual worship.
