Other Details
We are located in North Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, a most beautiful place to live, serve and worship.
Our church was formed by Reverend Gayle Heaslip and accepted as a missional church in the ADNE in 2018. The congregation is a modest group of engaged, committed, Spirit-led Christians filled with passion for relationship, prayer, scripture, missions and community service. We worship and celebrate Eucharist weekly in the setting of a member’s home. Traditionally, the service and liturgy has been in a format considered “low” church. During feast days or holiday seasons more formal services are celebrated.
Emmaus is a place where the three “streams” of Spirit, Scripture and Sacrament come together in the life our church creating a space where all can draw closer to God. Our mission is to seek Christ, follow Him and go where He sends us.
Our practices say…
We come to God as we are to discover who He is.
We follow Jesus and practice His ways.
We go with Jesus to love others.
A deeper understanding of our interpretation of these practices can be found at Emmauscape.org.
Currently, our missions include prayer and financial gifts (in the form of gift cards) for local high school students as requested by the Guidance Department. Regionally, we financially aid in supporting a clergy member in our dioceses who was forced to flee his home country. Our global efforts have included the Anglican Relief Development Fund and the Water Scarcity Project of East African Missions.
The small congregation at Emmaus is led by Reverend Gayle Heaslip. She serves as Rector, oversees operation of the church, prepares, leads and hosts Sunday services. Our small group of volunteers assist her with other needs including, accounting, budgeting, preparing liturgical and musical materials, occasionally hosting services and other necessities as they arise.
As a small church we believe the spirit of community and fellowship can be nurtured in an intimate home setting. Our gathering space may be limited but our capacity for love and support is boundless. We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable and valued. While our location is relaxed, we are committed to accommodating larger groups as possible. We invite all to come as you are, to join us in worship, connect with others and experience the joy of a close-knit faith community.
Emmaus comes together for an annual church retreat, Soul Care Days, Seder meals and weekly Sunday services. We frequently gather informally to be with one another as a church family. Currently, Emmaus is the only active Anglican church on Cape Cod and we seek to grow.
As we prepare to say farewell to Gayle as our Rector, we also pray for the continued life of the church she planted and tends. We look forward to what will come in agreement with and obedience to the Lord’s plan for Emmaus. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Parish Evaluation
Areas of Strength
- We are a healthy relational community of mature Anglican Christians.
- Emmaus has a committed, well identified, and active missional plan (local, regional, national and global).
- We have been blessed by the strong leadership of Reverend Gayle Heaslip who has guided our community since Emmaus was received as a missional church into the ADNE in October, 2018.
- Emmaus is a financially sound, tithing community.
- Our church is an intimate home church congregation where we care for, support and regularly pray for one another.
Opportunities for Our Future
- Our community is limited in generational membership and participation. We see opportunity to broaden our congregation to include families and members of all ages.
- As a home church we are physically able to accommodate only a modest congregation. Our heart is to find a larger space to be able to offer an open invitation and space for all who come seeking.
- Our church is somewhat unknown as an Anglican presence in Falmouth and on Cape Cod. Our future would ideally advance awareness of Emmaus Anglican Church.
Currently our mission is to seek Christ, follow Him and go where He sends us. We create safe, sacred spaces to explore the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ and the questions of life through the lens of His love, revealed by His word and Holy Spirit.
