Pastor for Spiritual Direction and Care

Full-Time Position (45 Hours/week)

Days Off—a chosen day during the week, Saturdays (ministry permitting)

4 weeks of Vacation

Supported by a Ministry Assistant (20 hrs)

Lead Team Member (10%)

Join our Team of 7 to give operational leadership to Hope’s Ministry.

  • Personal Sharing, Theological/Ecclesiological Discussions, Leadership development, Vision casting, Ministry planning, Problem solving etc. (9-Noon Thursdays 2x/month).
  • Meet every other week with our Pastor for Ministry Development for check-in, problem solving, input…etc.
  • Serve as a pastoral presence for the Hope Staff. This includes spontaneous check-ins and brief consultations. (Not on-going counseling).
  • Collaborate with Lead Team members on joint Ministry initiatives—i.e. Engage: Equipping Weekend, Ministry to Men events, podcasts.
  • Partner with a Lead Team member (on a rotational basis) in organizing the annual Lead Team retreat.

Spiritual Direction (55%)

Equip the Hope Family to be emotionally healthy and to intentionally care for one another.

  •  Train the congregation to relate to one another in ways that honor King Jesus primarily through offering equipping courses/practices.
  • Equip Community Group leaders to know how to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere and how to appropriately deal with conflict and lead those in their groups who are struggling.
  • Develop and support lay leaders who oversee equipping courses like Graceful Listening and Renewed Thinking.
  • Develop and support lay leaders who oversee recovery groups like Grief Share and Loved ones.
  • Serve as a pastoral presence in the Commons on Sunday a.m.’s, being on the lookout for new people in particular.
  • Offer triage counsel for those in crisis (i.e. marriage, divorce) or going through life transition (i.e. pre-marital, grief). Assess the situation and determine who should carry the issue forward—either on staff or through referral to a Christian counseling agency. Hope does not provide an on-going counseling service.
  • Develop Marriage Enrichment resources to enhance the marriages of the Hope Family.
  • Weekend equipping retreats, courses, book recommendations, coaching…etc.
  • Serve as a consultant for those exploring theological questions or the deeper, inner spiritual life.
  • Assist individuals in discovering their spiritual gifts and deploying them on a Hope ministry team.
  • Possibly develop a Lay Helper Team of men and women trained in listening skills who’d be willing to walk alongside those wrestling with life’s challenges. You’d serve as a resource for these helpers as they encounter various issues in their counseling…offering wisdom and/or proper referral to professional help.

Care (25%)

Help the Hope family navigate life’s transitions in a meaningful way that honors King Jesus and leads to spiritual growth.

  •  Oversee Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals. Other Lead Team members share in the execution of these events, but you are the point person.
  • Develop and support lay leaders who visit the Hope family in the hospital and minister to our homebound members.
  • Serve as Pastor on-call one day/week. Lead Team members cover the other days.
  • Manage Hope’s Compassion fund, out of which we seek to financially bless Hope family members who are in crisis need.

Personal Development & Communication (10%)

  • 1 Personal retreat day/month for rest, spiritual renewal, prayer, study.
  • Study and develop your own skills in areas of interest.
  • Engage the Hope family through email, phone calls, and texts with appropriate boundaries.
