Job Description

Explanation: This full-time position combines our existing part-time Director of Children’s Ministries position with other family life and pastoral ministry responsibilities. Children’s Ministry is expected to constitute approximately 30% of the duties of this position; thus, a calling, passion, and skills for ministry to children is essential for a prospective candidate. We are simultaneously exploring fulfilling ministry needs through either a director OR a pastoral role, not both. Hence, two separate job descriptions are presently posted.

Purpose: The Pastor of Children’s Ministry and Family Life will be the primary pastor and shepherd for children. This pastoral position is responsible for oversight, administration, and evaluation of ministries serving children of nursery age through 6th grade and includes the Awana program. He will also develop and oversee ministry to married couples and parents bringing gospel aid and biblical wisdom to every stage of marriage and parenting.

Qualifications: Mature Christian male who meets the qualifications of an elder (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9), thinks theologically, and has a heart to shepherd God’s people. A sense of calling to vocational ministry, with gifts and abilities appropriate for this position, including strong teaching, counseling, and leadership skills. A bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to this role (i.e. Christian Education, Bible, Counseling, etc.) or multiple years of related ministry experience strongly preferred. Fully embracing the Vision, Values, and Statement of Faith of GraceWay Church, and participating as an active member in good standing. Administrative, organizational, communication, problem solving and follow-through skills. Teaching skills with enthusiastic interest in the spiritual development and growth of children of our church and community. Team player with strong people skills for all ages and self-motivated leadership of children and their families. Energetic recruiter with training and team-building skills to effectively work with volunteer teams. Verifiable history of ministry experience within a local church setting.

Children’s Ministry: (30%) Strategically oversee and develop Children’s Ministry weekly programs (Sunday School, Children’s Church, Nursery, Awana) with the engagement of volunteer staff. Recruit, lead, guide, and equip Children’s ministry volunteers. Personally participate in children’s education on a frequent basis. Oversee curriculum evaluation and selection. Maintain attendance data and manage classroom space and volunteer needs accordingly. Oversee administration of the Child and Youth Protection Plan.

Family Life: (40%) Shepherd the spiritual health of families within the church. Strategically oversee and develop collaborative efforts with adult, student, and children’s ministry leadership to equip and train married couples and parents through small groups, studies, classes, seminars, workshops, retreats, mentoring, counseling, etc.: To raise and disciple children of all ages, from newborn to teens; To restore and strengthen, establish and support biblical marriages. Conduct counseling sessions (including pre-marital, marriage crisis, marriage enrichment, family dispute and support, etc.) with couples, parents, children, or a family all together. Provide ministry opportunities for families to serve together.

Care Ministries: (Home Helps, Deacon Fund, Funeral Team, Grief Support Group, Coordination of Shepherding contacts, Home-bound visitation, etc.) (10%) Strategically oversee and develop ministries to facilitate consistent congregational care delivered through widespread congregational participation under the direction of volunteer leadership.

Additional Ministry Duties of a Pastor: (20%) Recruit, encourage, equip, and train volunteer leaders to carry out the mission of each ministry one oversees. Prepare associated financial budgets for all ministries overseen and manage expenditures. Participate in all scheduled staff meetings and staff development. Assist with the shepherding and counseling care of the congregation. Assist with baptisms, child dedications, funerals, and weddings as needed. Preach on Sunday mornings approximately 2-4x a year. Serve as an elder.

Accountability: The Pastor of Children’s Ministry and Family Life shall work under the supervision of the Lead Pastor or his delegate.
