Overview of Faith Community Church

Faith Community Church is an evangelical, Reformed congregation in the Presbyterian Church in America located in West Chicago, Illinois. The purpose of our church is to do all things for the glory of Christ, the growth of his church, and the good of the community.

Our Called to Flourish vision, initiated in the fall of 2022, aims to establish concrete ways in which our congregation will put into practice our purpose statement over the next three years. The first step on the “path to flourishing” is to see the gospel advance in our local community.  In line with our church’s purpose statement and our Called to Flourish vision, we aim to flourish both spiritually and numerically as a congregation. A vital aspect of spiritual and numerical growth is purposively and proactively reaching our community and neighborhoods with the love of Christ and the message of the gospel.

 Overview of Position

This is a three year, full-time pastoral position aimed at reaching our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping our church grow numerically. Specifically, the Pastor of Community Outreach will focus upon doing the work of evangelism and outreach, training our congregation in evangelism and outreach, developing evangelistic and outreach initiatives, and connecting with new believers and attendees. The Pastor of Community Outreach is under the oversight of the head pastor and the session. The Pastor of Community Outreach and his family is provided with a parsonage on the church property.

 Areas of Focus

Given our specific aims and particular needs as a congregation, the Pastor of Community Outreach will have four primary areas of focus. Each of these areas connect directly to our church’s purpose to be a congregation which seeks “the growth of his church, and the good of the community.”

Examples would be showing hospitality in his own home to neighbors and church visitors, meeting with community members in local restaurants, and attending community events such as “coffee with the mayor.”
  2. Discipling our congregation in evangelism and outreach: The Pastor of Community Outreach will not only do the work of evangelism, but will also, through corporate teaching and personal discipleship, act as a trainer for our congregation in the areas of evangelism and outreach.
  3. Spearheading evangelism and outreach initiatives: The Pastor of Community Outreach will develop means of outreach for our church through various hospitality events and service initiatives. This will entail initiatives like starting a missional small group, leading our community outreach lunches, and developing opportunities for our church to actively connect with and serve our local community.
  4. Connecting with and discipling new believers and attendees: The Pastor of Community Outreach will also focus specifically upon developing relationships with and discipling new believers and new attendees of Faith Community Church.
