REPORTS TO: LEAD PASTOR

RELATES CLOSELY WITH: CENTRAL STAFF, LEADERSHIP TEAM (ELDERS, MINISTRY LEADERS), SERVANT TEAMS

CLASSIFICATION: FULL-TIME//SALARY

Overview

Risen Church is looking to hire a Pastor of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation who will champion, cultivate, and lead the discipleship and spiritual formation at Risen. The Pastor of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation serves as an influential part of the church while working alongside the lead pastor, staff, elders, and the individuals who volunteer and serve.

Our mission is to Share Christ. Make Disciples. As a church in the San Francisco Bay Area, we love the Bay and see this as a place of mission and a part of God’s kingdom. We desire to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and work to bring the Gospel to our surrounding community. We don’t have all the answers, nor do we have it all together. Rather, we are imperfect people who are learning the way of Jesus.

Responsibilities:

Preaching and Teaching

  • Preach twice a month.

  • On non-preaching Sundays, welcome the church, communicate announcements, read Scripture, administer communion, and benediction.

  • Teach Newcomers Lunch, Membership Class, Baptism Class, Discipleship Groups, and Leadership Training Class.

Ministry Development

  • Develop, nurture, manage, take ownership, be responsible for, and lead the end to end process from Connections Ministry to Discipleship Ministry which includes Community Groups, Women’s and Men’s Ministry, Family Ministry, Discipleship Groups (while also incorporating membership, baptism, and serving at Risen).

  • Recruit, mentor, train, and develop apprentices/leaders for the above ministries.

  • Multiply Community Groups by recruiting and training leaders, apprentices, and gathering new Community Group members.

Shepherding

  • Provide individual, marital, and family counseling to members at Risen.

  • Desire and ability to study the Word of God and effectively communicate it to the demographic in the Bay Area.

  • Commitment to the Christian faith, with a growing relationship with Jesus Christ as evidenced by action and character.

Professional Qualifications

  • At least one year of ministry experience.

  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to speak and pray in front of large groups

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and relational skills
  • Possess sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, and generational differences.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality, handling situations with discretion, diplomacy, and tact.

  • Exhibits personal and professional discernment and discretion.

  • Seasoned organization, prioritization, and leadership skills.
  • Positive, professional, self-starter with the ability to organize, adjust, and prioritize responsibilities and projects with minimal direction.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously with excellent time management and attention to detail.

  • Willingness and desire to grow, listen, learn, mentor, and teach

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt within a quickly growing (i.e., changing) church environment

  • Completion of seminary degree.

  • Ordained or willing to pursue ordination in the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America)
