Pastoral Assistant – Church Plant

Date Posted: February 16, 2024
Hours Per Week: 5-7
Trinity Church of Bedford
Bedford, MA, USA
Job Type: Bi-vocational,Residency
Other Details

The Pastoral Assistant (PA) role is designed to give meaningful service and leadership in the life of Trinity Church of Bedford, as well as assist men in discerning their call to vocational ministry. Fundamentally, the PA serves the church by assisting the pastors as they shepherd the flock.

The ideal PA is hungry to grow in his understanding and application of the gospel in the local church, and desires to serve the body with his gifts.

This is a one year position, following the academic calendar. The goal of the PA position is twofold: to bless a man aspiring for ministry with experience and training; and to bless TCB through his gifts, leadership, and service.

While many of the PA’s tasks will be administrative, he will also help with various pastoral, theological, and biblical leadership opportunities. Depending on the PA’s ministry aspirations, there may be a focus on growing in the theology and practice of church planting.

Job responsibilities include:

  1. being a faithful member of Trinity Church of Bedford
  2. preaching regularly at Sunday evening service (depending on gifts, experience, etc.)
  3. serving “up front” at various times in Sunday morning service (announcements, Scripture readings, leading prayer, etc.)
  4. attend bi-weekly service review
  5. weekly bulletin printing
  6. member meeting/membership class/directory printing
  7. taking elder meeting minutes; recording “action items” there
  8. implementing oversight of website and church marketing
  9. based on the PA’s experience/interests, he may also lead: student ministry, outreach to college campus, outreach to local military community, outreach to VA hospital
  10. assisting pastors in miscellaneous ministry tasks

Like all good partnerships, an ideal intern will be a blessing to Trinity as we are a blessing to him. We will seek to encourage, guide, lead, and counsel him (and his family) as he considers his ministry goals. He will serve, love, pray, and advise the elders and congregation as we fulfill the Great Commission together.

Compensation is $300/mo.

As I (Scott) consider my ministry training, I was most helped by a Pastoral internship/assistantship where I was, financially, only given a stipend; the main benefit, however, was the hands-on training I received. Witnessing a health church, a unified elder board, and shadowing a trusted pastor was life-changing. With that in mind, we hope the financial compensation will be helpful. But we think the best thing we can give a man aspiring to ministry is pastoral mentorship and immersion in a healthy church.

By God’s grace, the congregation is zealous for evangelism and discipling. The members are marked by unity and love. And yet, as a church plant, there’s work that needs to be done. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few – will you join us and put your hand to the plow?
