Senior Minister

General Description:  The Senior Minister is in charge of the spiritual welfare of the church and serves as the leader of the spiritual life of the congregation.  They facilitate members’ spiritual journey and discovery through leading worship services, studies and educational sessions along with outreach activities in the community bringing Christ’s word and message outside of the church walls.

The minster serves as an inspiration and example of Christianity lived in modern life, bringing the teachings of our Lord Jesus to life in our current world.  They are one of the most visible faces of our congregation to the community, supporting activities in the local and larger community, engaging the community to connect with our congregation, bringing the love of Christ into the everyday world, demonstrating true Christian Faith to all, as taught by Jesus.

The Senior Minister is a resource for the congregation and community, providing counseling, guidance and Christian education to those who seek it.  .

The Senior Minister is provided with housing.  There is a three bedroom parsonage immediately adjacent to the church, which has views of Quincy Bay.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In charge of the spiritual welfare of the church, with assistance from the Board of Deacons.
  • Serve as a spiritual leader of the congregation.
  • Lead Sunday morning Worship, collaborating with our Music Minister to develop and lead each service.
  • Collaborate with lay leaders (the Deacons) on a youth ministry, which includes special activities directed at younger members outside of Sunday morning worship.
  • Collaborate with lay members to lead our outreach ministry and services at a local nursing home and assisted living, currently once monthly services.
  • Develop and implement activities to lead the spiritual development and growth of the congregation, collaborating with the Deacons to deliver this programming.
  • Collaborate with the Deacons to execute programming (potlucks, Bible Study, book clubs, Hanging of the Greens, etc.) to strengthen the interpersonal bonds and connections within and among church members.
  • Serve as a “face” of the church to our local community.
  • Work, collaborating with church leadership and membership, to build and strengthen ties within our larger community and extend our outreach into the community through community activities, outreach and a presence in the community.
  • Work with church members to support community events that involve the church (such as Porchfest, Annual Squantum Fourth of July Parade, Halloween trick or treating, etc.)
  • Perform community visits to members and friends of the church who are ill or may require spiritual/pastoral support.
  • Collaborate with the church trustees around financial stewardship of the congregation and our financial resources.
  • Perform Sacraments of the Church including weddings, baptisms and funerals for congregational members and others in the community who may request this.
  • Work with lay leadership to ensure maintenance of church records.
  • Direct administrative matters of the church and oversee staff in the performance of these duties.
  • Assist with training of lay leadership (such as Deacons) who begin new positions and responsibility within the church.
  • Participate in local ecumenical religious groups to support the congregation and community.
  • Attend meeting of the Trustees and Deacons, which are usually on a monthly basis.
