Who we are: At the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square (PCKS) we desire for everyone in the community to “taste and see that the Lord is good!” (Psalm 34:8). We believe that God has called the people of PCKS, rooted in his love, to build His church, serve society, and steward creation with a focus in the Kennett Square community.
PCKS is a community of believers located in downtown Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, a diverse and thriving community located forty-five minutes outside of Philadelphia. Our most recent pastor, of fourteen years, left on good terms and was led by the Lord to take a call to lead a pastor residency program. Since April of 2023 we have been led through the EPC’s transitional church process by an EPC transitional pastor.
Job Summary: The pastor is called, along with the elders, to lead the church in fulfilling its vision and mission, through Sunday services, shepherding the elders and deacons, and administering the sacraments. More details on our vision can be found in our Vision 2024 document.
Qualifications:
- Ordained or able to be ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) .
- Holds to the essentials of the EPC faith without reservation.
- A deep personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- M. Div. degree or equivalent.
- Pastoral or ministry experience and demonstrated ability to lead.
- Given the church’s vision of ministering to the local community, a willingness to relocate to Kennett Square or the surrounding areas is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver biblically sound sermons that teach people how to follow Jesus.
- Serve as moderator for regular Session meetings; mentor and teach elders and deacons to help lead the church and fulfill its mission.
- Administer communion; perform weddings, baptisms, and funerals.
- As necessary, hold new member education classes.
- Engage in individual and collective pastoral care both individually and by equipping the congregation to do so themselves.
- Pursue ongoing education and professional growth through study and training.
- Participate in Presbytery and General Assembly meetings.
- Be an active member of the local ministerium.
- Commit to the local community and align with our Vision 2024.
- Equip church members with tools and opportunities to assist in God’s work through the church, by training and delegating appropriately.
