The Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association is seeking a Summer Theological Intern to support our Spiritual Life programming in the 2024 season.  This is a full-time paid position that includes housing.

The Intern will help us grow our Spiritual Life programming  and also spend time on personal outreach to neighbors, strengthening the spiritual life of our community by connecting neighbors to neighbors.  This is a challenging, rewarding  position in an historic summer community, for a person with significant potential as a church leader.   We are seeking an intern with personal initiative, self-direction, and a passion for community-building.

Dates: June  – August or early September, 13 weeks (Slight flexibility as to start and end dates)

Hours: 33 hours/week

Housing: Housing is provided; an efficiency apartment with a bath and kitchenette.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating MVCMA Sunday services (one weekly); welcome visiting clergy and congregants; manage the calendar of volunteers; edit and transfer our live streamed services to our website and YouTube Channel; organize/edit the weekly worship bulletin.
  • Serve as the MVCMA liaison with the visiting clergy person who arrives each week to lead our worship services.  Communicate prior to coming and greet them upon arrival, assist in their work, and help ensure they have a positive experience.
  • Attend weekly Office program meetings
  • Assist in weekly Bible Studies, which are led by either the visiting preacher or by the intern.
  • Work to grow attendance at our services and programs through creative use of media: oversee Spiritual Life events on MVCMA website, YouTube Channel, and Instagram; coordinate advertising with local papers and websites; distribute event posters; work to expand our media reach.
  • Lead and organize a “Good Shepherd Program,” reaching out to residents who are in need of a friendly visit.
  • Provide informal outreach to residents in general, growing relationships among neighbors, and connecting residents to our programming.
  • Provide fresh ideas and insights to the Spiritual LIfe Committee about how we may better serve the spiritual growth of our community.
  • Such other Spiritual Life responsibilities may from time to time be assigned by the General Manager or Spiritual Life Chairperson.

Qualifications:

  • strong faith and the desire to share God\\\\\\\’s love by ministering to the community
  • graduate work towards an M.Div. or related degree; intention to enter the ministry strongly preferred
  • strong social confidence and interpersonal skills
  • organizational abilities
  • the ability to work independently; a self-starter who shows leadership and initiative
  • social media and computer skills
  • strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities; the basic skills necessary to lay-out print advertisements and bulletins for our worship services
