Oasis Church is a small, multi-denominational and multi-cultural English-speaking congregation in Amman. Congregants come from different backgrounds with different particular beliefs, and are united by an expectant faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Oasis was founded by the Jordanian Nazarene Church as an outreach to English-speakers.
Amman is the capital of Jordan, a country of about 11 million in the Middle East. Amman is very safe, and the country boasts numerous wonderful biblical and historical sites and tourist attractions, including Jesus’ baptism site, Mt. Nebo, and Petra. Arabic and English are official languages, and while many people speak only Arabic, English is very common in the neighborhood of Oasis.
Oasis seeks an interim worship leader/liturgist during the summer months while the pastor and many of the volunteer worship leaders are traveling.
The interim leader will regularly lead worship during the summer, be responsible for the logistics of the weekly service (preparing the shared worship space for Oasis services, setting up the sound system, etc.), and be responsible for communication with new attendees and prospective attendees.
The successful candidate will believe in Christ, be able to operate in Oasis’ cultural and ecumenical environment, be able to lead contemporary worship, and conduct simple liturgy. If the right candidate is willing and able, you will be called upon to preach as well. Oasis has some wonderful preachers and musicians, but the Summer Worship Leader will be the mainstay during a season when many people will be traveling.
The Summer Worship Leader will be able to stay for the summer in the pastor’s family apartment near the church. You are encouraged to explore Jordan while you are in the country. Oversight will be provided by the pastor, remotely, and members of the church Leadership Team in person.
