Job Summary and Purpose:

The Worship and Music Director is responsible for the overall coordination of worship activities during the assigned worship service (8:30 a.m. Sunday traditional worship service or 11:00 a.m. Sunday contemporary worship service). These activities include congregational singing and oversight of choir and accompanists, praise teams, and bands and a well-planned and effectively executed service ensuring a meaningful worship experience for the congregation. This position coordinates special activities including dramatic elements and works closely with the Senior Pastor to align dramatic and musical elements to the sermons.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate with Senior Pastor to develop music that aligns with sermon themes.
  • ​Provide leadership and vision in planning and conducting effective worship services in conjunction with Senior Pastor.
  • ​Plan, execute, and lead meaningful worship services.
  • ​Select congregational songs and direct congregational singing.
  • ​Lead praise team and band which includes song selections and rehearsals.
  • ​Oversee media and technical elements of the contemporary worship service.
  • ​Work with decorating committee/flower committee to enhance the worship environment with appropriate set design.
  • ​Provide direction to and oversight of all performers and musicians.
  • ​Coordinate drama, as needed, in support of worship services.
  • ​Work with the Children’s Programs Director and the Youth Pastor to utilize children and youth during the contemporary worship services (e.g., drama, singing, scripture reading, etc.).
  • ​Ability to work with all ages and develop programs around holidays.
  • ​Plan, coordinate and enlist leadership for praise and worship in the Contemporary and/or Traditional Service.
  • ​Enlist and equip volunteers to accomplish tasks for an effective worship experience.
  • ​Coordinate with other Worship and Music Director for “Special Event” and “Special Day” Programs like Christmas, Easter, July 4th, Children’s programs.
  • ​Advise Senior Pastor, Discipleship and Administration Pastor, and other church staff and lay leadership concerning the needs and requirements of the Worship and Music Ministry as well as creative consultation for worship services and special events.

Qualifications:

  • ​Strong Christian values with exhibited commitment to a relationship with Christ.
  • ​A Degree in Music or Christian Education and/or 3-5 years equivalent experience in a music ministry position.
  • ​Demonstrated ability to build relationships across a diverse congregation.
  • ​Demonstrated ability to plan and lead worship that edifies Christ.
  • ​Excellent musical talents and leadership abilities.
  • ​Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Employment Contingencies:

  • ​Successful completion of a background check and credit check.
  • ​Willingness to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
