The Worship Team Associate will help lead the music and worship ministry team that seeks to connect members and guests of First Church Congregational Boxford (FCCB) to Jesus. The Worship Leader will be a committed Christian, an experienced worship leader, and a skilled musician who strives for musical excellence while also maintaining participation in the worship team as an accessible ministry, working to recruit and develop volunteers as a collective ministry team. The Worship Leader will seek to lead the corporate church body in theologically sound, creative, spiritually fulfilling worship with the goal of engaging the congregation in singing and hearing God’s word through music. This is a part-time, year-round position that will report directly to the Minister of Music.

Responsibilities – Music and Worship

  • Responsible for the oversight, planning, coordination and support of the FCCB Worship Team.
  • Collaborate closely with the Minister of Music to ensure musical selections, team membership, and event planning are synchronized between the various worship ministries.
  • Meet bi-weekly/monthly with the Pastoral and Worship Planning Team to plan upcoming worship services.
  • Where necessary, search for and hire paid worship team interns.
  • Supervise all Worship Team volunteers and paid interns under their care and be responsible for the recruitment, direction, oversight, and scheduling of all volunteers within the worship ministry for their teams, including vocalists and instrumentalists.
  • Utilize Planning Center as FCCB’s worship planning tool for services, scheduling team members and sending out plans to the team one week prior to their service date.
  • Responsible for creating and/or updating lead sheets from CCLI and creating music packets for worship team members weekly.
  • Seek to encourage a general sense of Christian community and strengthen the spiritual life of those involved in the Worship Team by opening with team devotions and closing with a time of prayer.
  • Be a positive presence, developing relationships within the worshiping community at the site as well as in the wider community.
  • Develop and mentor other team members from within the church body.
  • Practice and be prepared to lead scheduled mid-week and pre-service Sunday morning rehearsals with the Praise Team to prepare for Sunday worship services.
  • Provide a worshipful church service experience with musical excellence.
  • Responsible for being present 2-3 hours on Sundays and leading at least 60-90 minute rehearsal mid-week each week.

Responsibilities – Audio/Visual

Obtain and maintain a solid understanding of the general audio and visual technologies employed at FCCB, specifically the digital soundboards, presentation software, and streaming technologies used at the church.

  • Partner with the Deacon of Technology to help lead and oversee the care and maintenance of the sound systems and all accompanying microphones, monitors and other related peripherals in the FCCB sanctuary and Family Life Center.
  • Provide constructive feedback to A/V team members when necessary to continuously improve in-house and online streaming sound.

Qualifications – Required

  • Worship Associate must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  • A spiritually mature Christian, diligent in leading a life of committed discipleship.
  • Support of FCCB and its vision of being a center of community in Boxford and spiritual growth on the North Shore.
  • Skilled worship leader who is an experienced lead vocalist and lead instrumentalist.
  • An adept leader of other musicians.
  • A commitment to both “contemporary” and “traditional” Christian worship music, as well as an appreciation for other worship arts.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a multi-staff team ministry.
  • Strong organizational and group facilitation skills, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to adapt as needed to changing conditions.
  • Must demonstrate good listening skills and have an approachable, warm, and welcoming nature.
  • Coordinate with the Minister of Music to provide worship/music leadership for major holiday services such as, but not limited to: Christmas Eve, Lenten and Easter services.

Qualifications – Preferred

  • Proficient in music notation software.
  • Proficient in using Planning Center.
  • Ability to write and arrange music for a variety of instruments and voices as necessary.

Pay and Benefits

  • Part-Time Position – 10-15 hours per week.
  • Mentored Ministry.
  • Room and Board in Parsonage Ministry House.
  • While work hours will be set, there will be flexibility as to how those hours will be accrued (i.e. office hours, worship rehearsal, etc.).
