Youth Ministry Director – Position Description

Introduction

This unique position combines two vital roles within Anchor Church Youth Director and Communications. Anchor is a gospel centered church of 200+ in Avon Lake, Ohio, a desirable western suburb of Cleveland. We exist to help people focus on God, His Family, and His Mission. The incumbent impacts the spiritual growth of our youth while playing a key role in enhancing our church’s communication strategy. This position directly reports to the Senior Pastor.

Youth Ministry Responsibilities (25-30 hours per week)

  • Collaborates with Senior Pastor to establish and implement the youth ministry vision and action steps
  • Responsible for planning, staffing, and execution of youth events and activities
  • Oversees youth discipleship
  • Leads and is “teacher in charge” for at least one weekly youth session
  • Recruits and trains volunteers to work with youth
  • Implements processes necessary for effective youth ministry including check in, follow up, and outreach
  • Oversees and implements budget for youth ministry
  • Implements safety plan for youth ministry students, volunteers, and facilities

Communication Responsibilities (10-15 hours per week—some of these responsibilities are shared with other staff)

  • Develops and implements Anchor’s communication strategies including social media, announcements, digital and printed media
  • Develops engaging and informative weekly announcement scripts and oversees presenters’ recruitment, scheduling, and training
  • Archives weekly worship service
  • Updates featured events and ministry pages on the church’s website
  • Manages social media accounts
  • Oversees church-wide printed media and signage, etc.
  • Manages all Planning Center communication areas
  • Maintains Anchor’s branding and style

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Meets the biblical qualifications of a leader (1 Timothy 3:8-13) and exhibits the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22
  • Has extensive knowledge of the Christian Bible and Apologetics and agrees with Anchor’s Statement of Faith
  • Possesses a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, or seminary or at least three years of experience as a youth ministry leader
  • Demonstrates leadership and the ability to inspire youth, staff, volunteers, elders, and ministry committees
  • Possesses excellent management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Adept at conflict management and skilled in facilitating effective events, including bible teaching, worship, and recreational activities
  • Demonstrates ability to learn communications software including basic video editing, graphic design and corporate social media
  • This position includes opportunities for advancement and growth

Work Environment

The regular and recurring work of the position is performed in an environment that involves everyday low risks or discomforts typical of offices. Indoor work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work activities may also be performed outdoors, weather permitting.

Physical Demands

Work is both active and sedentary. The regular and recurring work of the position involves moving to and from various locations on the church or retreat campuses and spending periods of time standing. Work includes limited bending, pushing, and lifting. (Functional limitations on standing, bending, pushing, and lifting can be accommodated.) Occasional use of an automobile/van is required. No special physical exertion is required, although because the incumbent should be involved in youth activities physical activity is encouraged.

Salary $44,000-$46,000
